Colts vs. Jaguars: What We Learned from Jacksonville's 19-13 Win

David LevinJun 7, 2018

It wasn't the prettiest win for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but any victory is one they will take.

The team that started out with a 16-14 win in the first game of the season, against the Tennessee Titans, finished the season with a 19-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The win allows the Jaguars to go into the offseason with some momentum (if you call it that).

Jacksonville may have been the most maligned team in the NFL, as the first team to fire its head coach in midseason when Jack Del Rio was relived of his duties. The NFL's 32nd-ranked offense still could not get much going except for an exceptional day from Maurice Jones-Drew and a defense that caused chaos for Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky.

Even with the win, the Jaguars are assured of a top-seven pick in the 2012 NFL draft, which probably will be used on a receiver to bolster a bleak-looking passing game and receiving corps.

Here is what we learned from today's game...

8. The Colts Get Andrew Luck

1 of 8

Or, that is the general consensus.

Luck has been the top player on everyone's draft board all season and with the loss, Indianapolis has won the right to possible select Peyton Manning's successor.

Whether Manning comes back next season or not, the Colts must do something to improve their quarterback and offensive production.

7. Blaine Gabbert Had a Workman-Like Performance

2 of 8

You wanted to see more from Blaine Gabbert, but the Jacksonville offense played a conservative game.

Gabbert was 11 of 19 for 92 yards and a touchdown. He threw a touchdown to Chastin West.

Although it may not have been the game we thought it would be, Gabbert has now played in more games as a Jaguars rookie than any other quarterback.

He managed the game and did not let it get away from him like in the past few weeks.

6. The Defene Played Well Again

3 of 8

While the secondary gave up yardage over the middle of the field, the defense played fairly well.

The numbers are deceiving. Dan Orlovsky finished with 264 passing yards, but he did throw two interceptions in the game and the Colts played from behind the entire game.

The Jaguars defense may wind up in the Top-5 for the season.

5. Josh Scobee Is Solid Again

4 of 8

Scobee was 20 of 22 on field goals going into the ball game against the Colts.

All he did was kick four more field goals in the game today.

Scobee finished 24 of 26 on he season. He, along with Maurice Jones-Drew, were the most consistent performers on the team this season.

4. Breaking Even

5 of 8

With the win, the Jaguars finished 4-4 at home this season.

Jacksonville also finished 3-3 in the division.

Even with the five wins, the Jaguars division was was better than could be expected.

3. Justin Blackmon, Anyone?

6 of 8

The Jaguars can select no lower than seventh in the NFL Draft. Does this mean a receiver will be coming their way.

jjustin Blackmon has been listed as the top receiver on most draft boards and now the team will have to wait and see if he would be around when the team makes its first choice in the draft.

2. It Was a Good Day for Wayne and Delores Weaver

7 of 8

They were there for 352 games and were the city's biggest supporters.

For Wayne and Delores Weaver, the game was bittersweet. While their Jaguars won the game, it was the end of something that started out so great.

The Weaver's bought the Jaguars franchise in 1993 and sold it to Shahid Khan this season. In that time frame, the tea, has had three head coaches, gone to two AFC Championship games and saw the team become a blueprint for expansion success in the NFL.

The Weavers not only did a lot for the NFL and the franchise, they also left their mark on a city that needed the NFL as much as the NFL needed them.

1. It Was Maurice Jones-Drew's Day

8 of 8

Even when we all knew he would be the center of the Jaguars offense, MJD still kept going and going.

During the third quarter, the NFL's leading rusher broke off a run up the middle for over 50 yards, which gave him the most rushing yards in a season in Jacksonville Jaguars team history.

He finished with 169 yards on the day and finished with 1,606 on the season.

Jones-Drew, who was chasing long-time Jaguars great, Fred Taylor, solidified his place as the best running back in team history and the best runner in the NFL this season.

No other player has been more valuable to their team this season that Jones-Drew, who is averaging 46.5 percent of the team's total offense this season.
