Celtics' Jerome Allen Reportedly Expected to Interview for Trail Blazers HC Job
The Portland Trail Blazers are formulating a list of potential head coaching candidates they would like to interview in the wake of Terry Stotts' departure.
Per Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Blazers are expected to interview Boston Celtics assistant Jerome Allen.
Portland announced Friday night that it has agreed to a mutual parting of ways with Stotts after nine seasons.
Stotts' departure from the organization came after the Denver Nuggets eliminated the Blazers from the playoffs in the first round. Portland blew a 14-point lead in the third quarter of Game 6 to lose 126-115.
It marked the fifth time in the past seven seasons that the Trail Blazers have failed to make it out of the first round of the postseason.
Speaking to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Damian Lillard said he would like to see Jason Kidd be named Portland's next head coach.
Haynes noted that Lillard and Kidd have a "great relationship that goes back years."
Kidd has spent the past two seasons as an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Hall of Fame point guard has a 183-190 record as a head coach in five seasons between the Brooklyn Nets (2013-14) and Milwaukee Bucks (2014-18).
Washburn noted that Allen has already interviewed for the Celtics' head coaching job. The 48-year-old has spent the past six seasons as an assistant on Brad Stevens' staff in Boston.
Allen was head men's basketball coach at the University of Pennsylvania from 2009 to 2015. He posted a 65-104 record with one appearance in the College Basketball Invitational tournament.
