Arsenal Have Little Chance To Upset Chelsea at the Bridge

Hasmat MustunOct 1, 2010

It has been a while since I wrote a piece on Arsenal Football Club and have been taking time to analyse their game.

Many have been praising Arsene Wenger's team in the early season stages. Arsenal have been good and have show a great fighting spirit and a winning mentality. This was clearly lacking last year, but this season, I have seen a few problems within the squad that needs fixing if anyone is to become champions.

Arsenal came unstuck against West Brom and went three nil down before finally gearing up a fightback. There is a need for more responsibility at the back, especially with the new boys. This is the chance for them to really impress and make a stand, one of them has to take the lead. Just like Vermaelen did when he signed for Arsenal.

The goalkeeping situation has been a long problem that needed sorting out but nothing happened in the transfer window and now the Gunners are paying the price. Almunia is not a world class keeper, he makes too many mistakes. Fabianski had a good game against Belgrade, but made mistakes against Tottenham in the Carlin Cup.

The problem with the goalkeepers is their consistency. They need to take responsibility and improve their game. If the manager and the players back them because what they see in training, then all the fans would like to see that form taken onto the pitch. In fairness to both keepers, they have worked on their catching.

Responsibility is the big problem at the moment at Arsenal. It seems that if Fabregas is not on the pitch then players do not want to step up to take a penalty. Everyone needs to develop a leaders mentality, that is the next step to becoming a great player.

Players must not rely on Fabregas like they used to rely on Thierry. That would be going backwards for Arsenal.

As for the Chelsea game, well Arsenal have too many key players missing. Vermaelen is out and Fabregas is a serious doubt. This is bad news for Arsene Wenger, especially when Didier Drogba loves scoring against Arsenal.

Chelsea are missing Lampard, but the Blues have so much depth in their squad that they don't miss the midfielder at all. I think the inconsistency with the keepers and a new defence to deal with the power of Drgoba will be too much to handle.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal

Player to watch: Didier Drogba.
