After Argentina's Quarterfinal Run, What Is To Come of Diego Maradona?
Two years ago, the Argentina Football Association had to look for a new coach after Alfio Basile decided to resign. The man who became their new manager was none other than the greatest Argentine footballer of all time: Diego Maradona.
After Maradona took over he nearly got Argentina eliminated from going to the World Cup, with a nerve wrecking qualifying experience that saw La Albiceleste fail to qualify for the World Cup.
However, Argentina made it into the World Cup and after a dominating group stage in which they finished first in Group B with all nine points, and a 3-1 destroying of Mexico round 16, Argentina now faced familiar foe Germany.

Going into the match, Maradona helped to spread fuel on an already existing fire by turning directly to a Fox Sports camera and in an imitation German accent said: "What's the matter [Bastian] Schweinsteiger? Are you nervoussh?'' several days before the quarterfinal.
The reason why Maradona said this is that Schweinsteiger criticised Argentina several days earlier, questioning their conduct when Germany beat them on penalties in the 2006 World Cup at the same stage.
Of course, Maradona also thought that star German striker Thomas Mueller was a ball boy back in March, which was certainly a motivational factor for the young striker in the quarterfinal.
And after Maradona dug his grave, the Germans that Maradona made fun of were more than pleased to fill that grave in Cape Town as Germany was able to win 4-0. They are now in the form of potential World Cup champions.
Unlike Argentina, the young German players were all able to put together a fantastic display inside of Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, as players such as Mueller and Mesut Ozil looked like future superstars.
And to put the icing on the cake, Maradona got into a confrontation with some German fans at the end of the match before Maradona's daughter Dalma helped to separate the two parties.
Now with Argentina's loss, what will come of Diego Maradona?
Of course, Argentina made their second consecutive World Cup quarterfinal before losing to the Germans, but Maradona's young players were not nearly at their best in this match.
Lionel Messi the man proclaimed by Maradona himself as "the next Maradona" and considered to be the best player in the world had less goals than the entire North Korean squad had in this World Cup with zero, and was nowhere near his best as he was for Barcelona this year.
Many of Maradona's selections will certainly be examined underneath the microscope after the disappointment in South Africa as Argentina will want nothing more than their first World Cup in 28 years in Brazil in 2014.
With this disapointment, one also has to wonder if Maradona will still be in as the manager of Argentina in the future.
Will he or will he not? That is a question that certainly will be pondered going forward as the great Argentinian could get another chance with the Copa America coming up, or he might be out of a job as Argentina looks for a manager that will get them back to the promised land of being World Cup champions.
