FIFA World Cup 2010: David Beckham Would Be Great As England Manager
A frustrating World Cup tournament has ended for England, with the attention turning onto Fabio Capello and his future. Much have been made about his potential successors. I think David Beckham should be given the chance.
Beckham did not play due to an injury suffered late in the season with AC Milan. However, Beckham still travelled with the squad as a morale booster. The former England captain looked more like the boss as the tournament went on.
He sat in the dugout, dressed in his grey suit, cheering on the team. Most importantly, he lived every minute the players played, and you could see this by his facial expressions and emotions.
Beckham was livid when Lampard's goal was disallowed, and he waited at half-time to talk to the referee about it. He showed so much passion in this game that I feel he would be a successful England manager in the same way Maradona has with Argentina.
Maradona has not had great success at club level and struggled to get Argentina through qualification, but now his team look like they are going all the way to the final. Maradona lives every moment on the sideline, and even when his team is winning, he wants more out of the players.
I think Beckham would have a similar impact. But a man with no manaagerial experience could attract so much criticism. So why not put in Harry Redknapp in there?
Redknapp could be his mentor, Beckham could be assistant manager until he is fully capable and confident of taking the team by himself. If England want an English manager to take charge then there's only three names on the list for me: Hodgson, Redknapp, and Beckham.
