Champions League 2016: Live Stream, TV Info, Predictions for Tuesday Group Games

Matt JonesSep 26, 2016

Week 2 of the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League kicks off on Tuesday, with Borussia Dortmund’s showdown against holders Real Madrid serving as the marquee tussle of the round.

The German side got their European campaign under way with a 6-0 win over Legia Warsaw, while Real left it late to beat Sporting CP, scoring twice after the 89th minute to win 2-1. These sides are two of the most prolific goalscoring outfits in the game, meaning the Westfalenstadion should be entertained by a feast of fantastic attacking football.

Elsewhere, Leicester City host Porto, while Tottenham Hotspur make the long trip to CSKA Moscow. Monaco will welcome Bayer Leverkusen in another eye-catching tie.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid

MADRID, SPAIN - SEPTEMBER 14: Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid CF celebrates scoring their opening goal during the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Real Madrid CF and Sporting Clube de Portugal at Santiago Bernabeu stadium on September 14,

The Dortmund supporters will provide an intense atmosphere for what’s set to be one of the matches of the competition, as they welcome Real to the Westfalenstadion.

It’s a Madrid side that have seen their momentum sapped lately. While they salvaged a stunning three points against Sporting, there were long spells in the game when Los Blancos were outplayed. In their last two La Liga games, Madrid have notched back-to-back draws.

ESPN FC’s Dermot Corrigan noted a potentially encouraging trend for the Bundesliga side ahead of this one:

What will buoy the BVB players is their own recent form. In their last four matches, Dortmund have netted a whopping 20 goals, a run that included a hugely impressive 5-1 win at Wolfsburg. Despite the loss of several key men over the summer, manager Thomas Tuchel has assembled an attacking force of nature.

WOLFSBURG, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 20: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (C) of Dortmund celebrates after scoring his team's second goal during the Bundesliga match between VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund at Volkswagen Arena on September 21, 2016 in Wolfsburg, Ge

Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains in place at the point of the attack, but a new supporting cast of Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle, Emre Mor and Ousmane Dembele has refreshed this side.

As the club’s official Twitter feed noted following their 3-1 victory over Freiburg on Friday night, they’re tough to beat on home soil:

Madrid’s illustrious attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema have yet to click into gear, although in what’ll be an open game they possess the qualities to cause the Dortmund back four problems. However, the German outfit are looking irresistible at the moment and will edge a pulsating clash.

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Real Madrid

Leicester City vs. Porto

BRUGGE, BELGIUM - SEPTEMBER 14: Marc Albrighton of Leicester City applauds as he stands amongst his team mates during the UEFA Champions League match between Club Brugge and Leicester City at Jan Breydel Stadium on September 14, 2016 in Brugge, West-Vlaan

You sense that after last season’s remarkable Premier League title win, Leicester are putting all of their eggs in the Champions League basket this term.

It looked that way on Saturday, as the Foxes, so aggressive and incisive last season, were steamrolled by Manchester United, conceding four basic first-half goals. WhoScored.com summed up the difference between this term and the last one:

In Europe, it’s so far so good. Claudio Ranieri’s side produced a professional display on their Champions League debut, beating Club Brugge 3-0 away from home. The King Power Stadium will be rocking for their first home game in the competition, although Porto represent a sizeable step up in quality.

The Portuguese side have had an inconsistent start to the season on the domestic front and were held to a 1-1 draw by Copenhagen in Week 1. However, in the likes of Iker Casillas, Danilo Pereira and Andre Silva, there’s quality and experience in Nuno Santo’s XI.

It’s a vital game for Leicester. Per former England forward Gary Lineker, it seemed as though Ranieri was thinking about it during the mauling at Old Trafford:

Given both Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were withdrawn at half-time, the onus will be on them to push Leicester to three points here. However, confidence is currently brittle at the King Power, and with plenty of canny operators within their ranks, Porto have enough to take a point back to Portugal.

Prediction: Leicester City 1-1 Porto
