Golden Shoe 2016-17: Top Goalscorers in Europe, Latest Points and Standings
Europe's major leagues are only in their opening weeks, so there are some unfamiliar names at the top of the standings for the 2016-17 Golden Shoe.
Christian Gytkjaer of Rosenborg—currently topping Norway's Tippeligaen after 23 games of the season—is the man leading the way in Europe's goalscoring rankings, having netted 16 goals from 19 appearances so far in 2016.
Some of the big guns have made ominously good starts to the season, with Chelsea's Diego Costa and Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic both on target again in the Premier League at the weekend, while Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski scored against Schalke 04 on Friday.
Here are the standings for the Golden Shoe:
| 1 | Christian Gytkjaer | Rosenborg | 16 x 1.0 | 16.0 |
| T2 | Mikhail Gordeichuk | BATE | 10 x 1.5 | 15.0 |
| T2 | Gerard Gohou | Kairat | 15 x 1.0 | 15.0 |
| T4 | Roope Riski | SJK Seinajoki | 14 x 1.0 | 14.0 |
| T4 | Vidar Kjartansson | Malmo | 14 x 1.0 | 14.0 |
| T4 | Gardar Gunnlaugsson | Akranes | 14 x 1.0 | 14.0 |

| - | Alexandre Lacazette | Lyon | 6 x 1.5 | 9.0 |
| - | Diego Costa | Chelsea | 4 x 2.0 | 8.0 |

| - | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 4 x 2.0 | 8.0 |
Rules: To calculate a player's points tally, their goals are multiplied by a difficulty constant between one and two depending on which league the goals are scored in.
For example, the Premier League has a rating of two so the goals are doubled, Ligue 1 has a rating of 1.5 and the Norwegian top flight has a rating of one.
Costa looks to be nearing his fierce best again, and he scored twice against Swansea City in a 2-2 draw on Sunday to take his tally to four goals from four matches so far in the 2016-17 Premier League.
The Spain international netted the opener at the Liberty Stadium for manager Antonio Conte's Blues before scoring an acrobatic late equaliser after Swansea had turned the game on its head, per the Premier League:
In Costa's first season at Stamford Bridge, he scored 20 goals in 26 appearances as Chelsea won the Premier League in 2014-15, per WhoScored.com.
As the west London club struggled and finished 10th last term, the former Atletico Madrid man could only find the back of the net 12 times in 28 outings.
The fact that he has scored four already in 2016-17 and helped Chelsea record an unbeaten record so far this season is surely an indicator that the Blues will be back in the title race again under Conte.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic also scored his fourth Premier League goal in as many appearances for United, but he could not prevent Jose Mourinho's Red Devils losing 2-1 to Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The superlative Swede took advantage of a fumble from Sky Blues goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and hammered home a superb finish to get United back in the game just before half-time after they had gone 2-0 behind.
Ibrahimovic could easily have had a couple more as well given the number of attempts he had on goal, per WhoScored:
He is already United's main threat up front and, as with Costa, the Red Devils will likely be title challengers again if he keeps on scoring.
Lewandowski backed up his opening-day hat-trick against Werder Bremen by scoring the first and setting up the second for Bayern as they claimed a valuable 2-0 win at Schalke.

In goalscoring terms, the Poland international made a vast improvement last season on his first Bayern campaign, netting 30 goals in 2015-16 compared to 17 in 2014-15.
His appetite for goals is clearly not diminished, and there is little doubt Lewandowski will be in the reckoning for the Golden Shoe come the end of 2016-17.
In terms of Europe's big-name strikers, it is Costa, Ibrahimovic and Lewandowski who have made the best starts to the new season.
But Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez already both have three league goals to their name, Lionel Messi has two, and Cristiano Ronaldo was on the scoresheet six minutes into Real Madrid's clash with Osasuna on Saturday, the Portuguese's first appearance of the new term.
