La Liga Table 2015: Updated Standings Following Matchday 37 Results

Barcelona are your 2014-15 La Liga champions following their 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Despite Real Madrid's 4-1 win over Espanyol, Los Blancos can no longer catch the Blaugrana in the standings after Matchday 37.

The club's official Twitter account celebrated the news:

Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the match, while Cristiano Ronaldo was at his very best for Real, bagging a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Sevilla closed the gap with Valencia to just a single point by beating Almeria 2-1. Here are the full results from Week 37:

Barcelona and Atletico engaged in a fierce and sometimes cynical battle on Sunday, but one moment of brilliance from Messi was enough to give the Catalans a 1-0 win and the La Liga title in the process.

Former team-mate Ronaldinho was one of many to congratulate the Blaugrana:

Messi produced one of his typical finishes deep in the second half, holding the ball up for a second in the box before sliding the ball past Jan Oblak. The Atleti stopper had a fine outing, but there was nothing he could do about that.

With the exception of a short strong spell from the Atleti, Barcelona were the better team. Messi and Neymar had several chances to open the score in the first half, and the visitors were denied a clear penalty after 20 minutes.

There was also an odd incident that saw Dani Alves get booked for a dive and awarded the free-kick at the same time, per Ladbrokes:

And the end of the match saw an ugly incident between Neymar and Diego Godin where the two nearly came to blows, and Messi was yellow-carded for challenging Godin and wasting time. None of it mattered, however, as the visitors were able to celebrate the title after the final whistle.

Manager Luis Enrique warned his players that their campaign isn't over yet, with the finals of the Copa del Rey and Champions League still on the horizon, but he did acknowledge this great feat had to be celebrated:

Real Madrid knew they had to beat Espanyol to have any chance of challenging Barcelona for the La Liga title on the final matchday, and while they did what they had to do, it ultimately wasn't enough.

Ronaldo's hat-trick and Marcelo's strike gave Los Blancos a 4-1 win, with Christian Stuani scoring Espanyol's lone goal after a howler from Keylor Navas, via AS' Nicholas Rigg:

Ronaldo managed to pass Alfredo Di Stefano on Real Madrid's all-time top scorer's ranking, per Squawka, but it will be of small comfort after losing the title to their hated rivals from Barcelona:

Valencia were held to a 1-1 draw by Celta Vigo, giving Sevilla the opportunity to close the gap in the race for the final Champions League ticket to just a single point. Vicente Iborra scored both goals in the win over Almeria, who will be Valencia's opponents on the final matchday.

Sevilla face a difficult trip to Malaga but can also still qualify for the Champions League by beating Dnipro in the Europa League final.

Deportivo La Coruna jumped over Eibar in the standings with their win against Levante and now control their own destiny in the race to avoid relegation.
