NBA Rumors: Washed Up Michael Redd Isn't Worth It for Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are going to be a very good team this season, so if the rumors that they are interested in shooting guard Michael Redd are true, they should just drop the issue.
They don't need Redd, and even if they did he wouldn't be worth it.
There was a point and time where signing Redd would be a great move for a young and athletic team like the Pacers.
He has career averages of 20 points, 2.3 assists and four rebounds per game, and he was known around the NBA for being one of the purest shooters from behind the arc.
In his best season, 2006-07, he averaged 26.7 points per game and .382 percent from three-point land.
Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times is reporting that the Pacers are the front-runners to sign the former Buck and unrestricted free agent:
"The Indiana Pacers appear to be the front-runners for Michael Redd.
Redd, the former Bucks standout shooting guard who is an unrestricted free agent, visited with Pacers officials Thursday. Redd also has drawn keen interest from Washington, New York and Boston.
"
The Pacers shouldn't waste their time signing Redd. There was a point and time where he would be a great signing, but not anymore.
Redd is injury prone, as he suffered a knee injury in the 2008-09 season that has hindered him ever since. He re-injured the knee the very next year, and has ended up playing in only 28 games in the past two seasons.
I'm sorry, but this is not a guy you give money to. He's torn the ligament in his knee twice now, and his track record since the original injury does not do anything to instill confidence in the fact that he can make a comeback.
The Pacers need to be smart.
When they signed free-agent power forward David West to play alongside studs Danny Granger, Darren Collison and Roy Hibbert, they essentially made themselves one of the most talented young teams in the Eastern Conference.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them give the Bulls a run for their money in the Central Division, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see them make a ton of noise in the playoffs.
Redd won't add much to this team, as he's not even a guarantee to stay healthy.
The Pacers have a good thing going on right now, so there's no use in wasting any of their time with Michael Redd.
