Why Jerry Jones' Support of Jason Garrett Is Proof Cowboys Owner Is Clueless
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones came out today and insisted that head coach Jason Garrett's job is safe. This is yet more proof that Jones is completely out of touch with his football team and what it needs to get better.
Garrett is in the first year of a four-year contract, and by most accounts, he has the team playing harder than it did during the first half of 2010 under then-head coach Wade Phillips. But the Cowboys are currently 7-6 and have lost several games (including their last two losses) that were completely mishandled by the first-time head coach.
Garrett has the team's offense playing well, as it currently ranks sixth in the NFL in yards per game (390.1), but his overall game management has left a lot to be desired.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Cowboys have simply not finished games well on both sides of the ball. The defense has been torn through like a wet paper towel during recent fourth quarters, and Garrett hasn't helped matters with his clock gaffes. Against the Arizona Cardinals, he effectively iced his own kicker by calling a timeout that nullified a made field goal. Dan Bailey then missed the ensuing try from 49 yards out.
Then, on Sunday night, Bailey had a 47-yarder that would have tied things up against the New York Giants blocked.
While some of the team's struggles have come because of bad luck, like injuries and bad bounces, Jones shouldn't lock himself in to Garrett long term. What if this offseason, a star coach who is a better fit for the franchise becomes available? Should he really stay married to a guy like Garrett, who hasn't exactly proven himself?
I don't think so, and I think publicly expressing confidence in a guy who has the team at 7-6 and barely hanging in the playoff picture is a bad idea. Not when so much is expected of the team from your fans.
