NBA Trade Rumors: Bulls Must Offer King's Ransom to Land Dwight Howard
Finally, the Bulls have made it known that they are not going to stand pat and hope that the 2010-2011 Bulls, plus a mid level exception-like SG, is enough to take the next step.
Many can argue that the Bulls only needed health and a two guard to overtake the Heat, but no one can argue that a combination of Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard make the Bulls a dynasty-level team for the next five years.
News that the Bulls are throwing their hat in the D12 ring is positive, even if the inquiry is unsuccessful. It shows aggression and that the Bulls recognize who they are and where they want to be.
The Bulls should spare no expense to acquire Howard, sans Derrick Rose. Does this completely change the team? Sure it does, but reconstruction is only worth it when the future is markedly better. A Howard and Rose-led dynasty is just that. Bulls fans love Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, and with good reason.
They are solid players that helped the Bulls to their best season since the Michael Jordan era, but the only way this team will reach that level again is to be bold. This is a different NBA; the superstar unions aren't going away. Also, they won't continue to underachieve as they did last year in Miami.
Teams and execs will be smarter about the way they construct those types of teams. Role players will never be obsolete, but stars will always drive championships. There were other players that could have supported Dirk Nowitzki last year, but very few, if any, that could have played his role.
If the Bulls secure Rose and Howard, the task every year is making sure you have the proper role players to win the title. D-Rose and D-12 make the Bulls contenders alone. Finding role players is a lot easier than finding cornerstones.
I am happy to see the Bulls show the aggression to acquire a cornerstone.
