NBA Free Agents 2011: Teams That Should Look into Gilbert Arenas

Jeff ChaseDec 10, 2011

The Orlando Magic used their amnesty clause Saturday on struggling point guard Gilbert Arenas. With that, Arenas is now a free agent and will be able explore the free-agent market.

While Arenas has been quite a flop since returning from knee injuries, there are still plenty of teams that would be willing to give him a look.

While the Pacers do already have point guard options in Darren Collison and George Hill, they could greatly benefit from Arenas' scoring. Arenas could arguably play the 2, as he is definitely a better shooter than passer.

While the Pacers could benefit from Arenas coming off the bench, it would be quite a risk for the team considering they do not have much room at point guard. They could go after a better 2-guard in OJ Mayo, a player they acquired, then lost after their trade fell through last season. If they do get Mayo, he and Arenas would be quite the backcourt duo.

The Knicks recently let go veteran point guard Chauncey Billups, and with the apparent move of Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks' next best option could be Arenas.

Pairing Arenas with Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler would make the Knicks possibly one of the most dangerous teams in the East. Arenas wouldn't have to worry about being the primary scorer, as he would essentially become the third option.

The Knicks would be taking a huge risk, but the reward could be greater than the risk.

The Hornets could be in need of a scorer and point guard if they do end up trading Paul to the Lakers. If that trade goes through, the Hornets could greatly benefit from Arenas' services.

While it remains to be seen if Arenas can still run a team like seasons past in Washington, there is no better place for him to go to prove himself.

Just like every other team, the Hornets would be running a risk. At least if they brought in Arenas, they would be bringing in arguably a marketable player who would make the team more attractive on the national state and perhaps bring good results.
