Are the Yankees Shifting Towards Hughes?
Andy Pettitte still has a $10 million offer from the Yankees for 2009 according to Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News.
After landing Mark Teixeira, a baseball official close to the Yankees has said the odds of Pettitte being a Yankee next year are “55-45 against.” The official said that the Yankees may turn to Phil Hughes to fill his spot in the rotation.

The Yankees still think highly of Hughes, but they just seem frustrated about the injuries he has had the past two seasons. They haven’t given up on him though. So you may very well see him in the rotation come Opening Day.
The door isn’t fully closed on Andy at the moment, but it looks like he is headed out the door. The Yankees offices are closed at the moment, so you won’t hear anything just yet. You may hear something later next week when the offices reopen. It will definitely be interesting to see how this unfolds.
“It’s less likely that Pettitte returns," an official said on condition of anonymity. “Most (Yankee executives) are thinking of another direction.”
A baseball official confirmed to McCarron that the Yankees are ready to go in “another direction” since Phil Hughes seems ready for a rotation spot.
I have had an enormous amount of emails concerning my blogroll over the past few weeks, as people have been asking me to link their site. If any of you have a sports site, preferabally baseball and the Yankees, feel free to email me because I would be glad to add it. All I ask in return is that you link me on your site as well.
