NBA Rumors: Deron Williams Must Re-Sign with Nets to Lead Team into Brooklyn
The New Jersey Nets got some great news when Deron Williams said that there was a “90 percent chance that he would re-sign with New Jersey.”
According to the tweet from The Daily News' Stefan Bonday, Williams does have intentions of re-signing with the Nets as he reportedly feels very optimistic about the organization.
And according to Pro Basketball Talk:
"Williams is going to play out this season with the Nets then become a free agent because that is his path to the biggest, longest payday. But if the Nets—who have cap space and some young pieces—can bring in one more star, Williams will stay. He might stay anyway, not many teams can offer max deals to him next summer anyway.
"
When Williams was traded from the Utah Jazz to the Nets last year, New Jersey knew that Williams could very well leave them at the end of the 2011-12 season. However, with the crop of free agents coming up next year, it looks like Williams will be more of a recruiter for the Nets than a problem.
If this happens with Williams and the Nets coming to an agreement early into the free agency period, it will be the perfect move for this franchise as it moves into Brooklyn. The Nets not only need a face of their franchise, but in the NBA now they will need multiple faces.
If you look at the elite teams in the NBA you will notice that they have more than one great player.
Miami has “The Big Three” of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The New York Knicks have A’mare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, while possibly adding Chris Paul.
When the Nets start playing in Brooklyn next year, they will need a pair of big names attached to their team. Having Williams is a great start, however, they will have to make another big addition.
The Nets will have the cap room to add another player like Williams, and he is very close to upcoming free agent Dwight Howard. It’s very possible, if Howard isn’t traded, that he will join Williams as this team opens up next year in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
If that’s the case, it makes the Nets one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference and just as good as their cross-town rivals, the New York Knicks.
Williams will score a huge payday no matter where he goes. However, with the Nets, he has a chance to lead this team as they enter an amazing situation in Brooklyn.
