Tim Tebow: QB's Faith and Confidence Will Lead Broncos to AFC West Crown

Ryan RudnanskyDec 5, 2011

The realist—referencing concrete evidence—would say Tim Tebow isn't fit to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

He has poor accuracy—completing just 47.5 percent of his throws this season—and his delivery is slow out of the pocket.

But Tebow is not a realist. He's a dreamer, and he's not the only one.

A whole legion of Denver Broncos fans are dreaming big right now after Tebow led the Broncos to yet another come-from-behind victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Tebow led them back from a 29-21 deficit early in the fourth quarter, then iced the game with two drives into field-goal range.

This time, however, it wasn't Tebow's legs that did the work. He rushed for only 13 yards, largely because the Vikings were committed to stopping his rushes out of the pocket.

Instead, Tebow had his best passing game of the season, going 10-of-15 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

Both of Tebow's touchdowns came in the second half, only further exemplifying his ability to lead when it matters most. He also converted a critical two-point conversion with the Broncos down, 29-27.

In the meantime, the Oakland Raiders, who were supposed to run away with the AFC West at this point, fell hard, losing to the Miami Dolphins, 34-14.

With the Broncos holding the tie-breaker between the two teams, it's starting to look more and more likely that it will be the Broncos who win the division, while the Raiders fall short.

In their next four games, the Broncos play the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

I'm beginning to believe the Broncos will go 3-1 in this stretch after the Bears fell to the lowly Chiefs, 10-3, in Week 13.

That would be more than enough, with the Raiders still set to face the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers.

I find it hard to believe the Raiders will beat the Packers and Lions.

Of course, none of this would be possible without Tebow, who has single-handedly taken a sunken franchise and undeniably injected life into it.

Is Tebow the Broncos' next franchise quarterback?

It's too early to tell.

Has he defied expectations so far?

Yes, he has.

And it's because he's never listened to the doubters, while using his faith, confidence and leadership to guide the Broncos to five straight victories.

Normally, a quarterback of Tebow's inadequacies in the pocket would be doomed from Day 1, as he was labeled.

But you can't base everything on outward appearance; it's what's inside that counts.
