Philadelphia Eagles: What Andy Reid Really Wants to Tell DeSean Jackson

Mike ChiariDec 2, 2011

After losing an uninspiring game against the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 31-14 on Thursday night, the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff hopes have been all but dashed. A microcosm of their poor effort has been the play of disgruntled wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Jackson, who is seeking a new contract, has failed to give maximum effort for much of the season, and that has been particularly evident over the past few weeks.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "How the hell do you think you're going to get a contract with your attitude?"

It all started when Jackson was deactivated for a game against the Arizona Cardinals a few weeks ago for missing a special teams meeting.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "No wonder you've been fumbling so many punts lately."

Things certainly haven't got better since then, as things came to a head last week in a blow-out loss to the New England Patriots. Jackson looked to be completely unfocused, resulting in dropping a sure touchdown as he seemed to turtle in the face of an oncoming hit, and dropping an additional potential score as well.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "Did you lather your hands in baby oil or something before the game, butter fingers?"

Jackson's heartless play led head coach Andy Reid to bench the electric receiver for part of the second half against New England. Reid's tactics most certainly haven't got through to Jackson, though, as evidenced by his continued terrible effort against the Seahawks on Thursday.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "Grow a pair!"

Jackson continued to drop passes and appeared to give up on an easy block downfield on a swing pass to running back LeSean McCoy. He was caught loafing on fly patterns throughout the game as well, and seemed to tune out quarterback Vince Young when he was trying to talk to him on the sidelines. He then turned his back on the media during an interview.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "At least when Randy Moss checked out he still caught a touchdown once in a while."

In other words, Jackson's actions on Thursday are simply the latest in a long line of neglectful behavior. While the Eagles failures can't be pinned completely on him this season, he is certainly one of the main contributing factors to their disappointing effort.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "Basically, it's all your fault."

There is a good chance that Reid will take the fall for the team's shortcomings by losing his job, but I'm sure he has has some choice words he wishes he could say to the receiver. Despite Jackson's continued shenanigans, Reid has always supported him in the media. However, I get the feeling that his true personal feelings are quite different.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "We used to do chest bumps after you scored touchdowns, and now you're going to get me fired? Did those times mean nothing to you?"

Perhaps Reid would like to tell Jackson to man up and go over the middle like a real receiver, or maybe he would tell him that no team is going to give him a huge contract if he continues to loaf and act like a prima donna. More than likely, however, Reid would probably like to tell Jackson to focus more on football than his birthday party as evidenced by this NSFW video:

The video, featuring Jackson and Basketball Wives star Draya Michele, is yet another example of Jackson's misplaced priorities. Most players put all of their focus and energy into football when they are playing for a new contract, but Jackson seems to be doing just the opposite like a high school student with senior-itis.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "The last time I checked, your job was playing football and not throwing yourself a birthday party. Who the hell is Draya Michele anyway?"

Jackson isn't the only thing wrong with the Eagles, but he certainly does represent everything that is wrong with them. His "too cool for school" mentality is an absolute albatross, and it is likely to cost a good head coach his job.

What Andy Reid Would Like to Tell D-Jax: "I know the entire city of Philadelphia hated me to begin with, but your lazy attitude put it over the top"

If by some miracle Reid is able to stay on as head coach, though, I don't see any way he and Jackson can continue to co-exist. Provided Reid isn't canned, I can think of one thing he would like to say to Jackson if he signs with another team... Good riddance.
