NBA Trade Rumors: Why Cavaliers Shouldn't Trade Ramon Sessions to Knicks
There are rumors going around that the New York Knicks may be pursuing Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ramon Sessions as a potential backup to Chris Paul, who they are also targeting.
According to Alan Hahn of Newsday, there could be some interest for the 25-year-old coming off a solid season.
Given the Cavaliers have veteran Baron Davis and just drafted former Duke point guard Kyrie Irving No. 1 overall, it may seem Sessions is expendable in Cleveland.
But the Cavaliers would be making a big mistake in letting Sessions go.
First of all, Davis isn't going to be around for too much longer. He's 32 years old right now, has a history of injury problems and didn't play the final game of last season because he was suffering from back spasms.
But beyond that, Sessions is simply a better player than Davis is right now. Davis averaged 13.9 points on 41 percent shooting and 2.6 turnovers last season. Sessions averaged 13.3 points on 46 percent shooting and 2.2 turnovers. Plus, Sessions showed he could lead the point, averaging 5.2 assists.
The Knicks are looking at Sessions as a backup so they likely won't offer that much for Sessions. Why would the Cavaliers trade a solid player who is just 25 years old when he was their best player last season?
Obviously, it wasn't the Cavaliers who reached out to the Knicks but vice versa, so there's a good chance they won't go through with a deal.
But if they do they're making a big mistake, trading away one of the few players who played well for the 19-63 Cavaliers last season.
If you're a Cavaliers fan, you hope this is just gossip and nothing else.
The Cavaliers could actually take a step back if they trade Sessions.
