Lakers Rumors: 5 Hot Rumors Swirling Around the Lake Show
Chris Paul and Dwight Howard prove just one thing: The Lakers like their future players to be All-Stars with a great deal of cachet.
It just wouldn't be the offseason without some shocking rumors featuring the purple and gold. Just because this is going to be a quick and manic offseason doesn't mean the Lakers will not attempt to be major players.
As you will soon see, they are stepping their acquisition game up to unparalleled efforts. Lakers fans are damn lucky for one reason: This franchise is greedy.
You would think that a roster that is still very much built to win would be fine. This team employs arguably the greatest player in the league in Kobe Bryant, one of the best forwards in the game in Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, a player that when healthy is among the best defenders.
So you would think they would be in the middle of tweaking things here and there. Well, that just wouldn't be the style of the team that warrants Jack Nicholson be at nearly every game.
This is the Lake Show. Their motto really should be: go big or go home. The following rumors feature a who's who of NBA superstars.
The Lakers greed has no end, as they don't just want one of these players. They want a couple of them. Well, it's a good thing that lockout stopped the major markets from stockpiling talent.
It's back to business as usual as the Lakers look to acquire the best in the league on their way to yet another dominating season.
5. Ramon Sessions
1 of 5You may want to consider this tweet that came around before the draft. Gary Woelfel posted, "Bucks, Lakers and Knicks among several teams inquiring about Ramon Sessions."
With a few months breather, it's time for the Lakers to make a call to a still-rebuilding franchise about their guard.
The Lakers have to get younger at the position, and Sessions could shine with improved personnel around his along with stability. It's a gamble, but one the Lakers should take.
4. Baron Davis
2 of 5The Lakers woes usually swirl around the point guard position. So it is no wonder they are monitoring closely the outcome of things out in Cleveland.
Hoopsvibe maintains the Cavaliers are thinking about releasing Baron Davis through the amnesty clause. The Lakers would more than likely have to pay far less than the Cavs were on the hook for so this makes sense.
What doesn't make sense is adding yet another aged guard that is increasingly susceptible on defense. They already have that in Derek Fisher.
The same report does propose another interesting idea...
3. Rashard Lewis
3 of 5That would be a shot at sharp shooter Rashard Lewis. Hoopsvibe contends that the Wizards are ready to use that trusty amnesty on Rashard Lewis.
If he does dangle out in the open market, the Lakers are ready, willing and possibly able to take a stab at him.
Washington is hardly in a position to continue paying Lewis millions. The young team that continues to make strides as an up-and-coming team wants to get even younger.
That makes Lewis dispensable and the Lakers quite excited. Having Lewis on the wings would make the Lakers an fierce offensive juggernaut, at least more than they already are.
2. Monta Ellis
4 of 5Rusty Simmons of The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Warriors and Lakers have held discussions on Monta Ellis.
Yup, I told you the Lakers have only appetites for the best. The scoring machine would be a perfect segue once Kobe Bryant calls it a career.
The report doesn't state who the Lakers may have offered in preliminary talks, but the notion that they don't really need to move on anything has to be drummed up once again.
1. Chris Paul and Dwight Howard
5 of 5Mark Heisler used to cover the Lakers beat so he is well-versed in their motives. He now writes for Sheridan Hoops, where he wrote quite the stunning turn on Monday.
Heisler maintains the Lakers wants take a stab at trading for Dwight Howard, possibly with Andrew Bynum. He also contends the Lakers would dangle Pau Gasol in front of the Hornets to nab Chris Paul.
The ridiculous part is that they are not looking at one or the other. Rather, they want both to be Lakers as soon as possible.
Howard would make more sense, as Paul has mad no secret that he wants to play for the Knicks. This would make the Lakers just a touch shy of unstoppable.
