What's At Stake?

Christian Ponder continues his development for Minnesota. The rookie quarterback has shown spurts of potential during, but needs to illustrate more consistency. Since the Vikings are out of the playoff race, they should start opening up the playbook like the Panthers have done with Cam Newton.

It's a completely different story for the Falcons, who need a win to keep pace in the NFC. They have a favorable schedule down the stretch, which should help their cause, but Atlanta only has one win over an elite team. Matt Ryan and Co. will need to start playing better against strong foes.

Vikings Injury Report

TE Kyle Rudolph (questionable, quad), TE Visanthe Shiancoe (questionable, hamstring), RB Adrian Peterson (questionable, ankle) and LB Erin Henderson (questionable, hamstring)

Falcons Injury Report

WR Julio Jones (questionable, hamstring) and DB Kelvin Hayden (questionable, leg)

Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit 'Em and Sleeper

Start 'Em: WR Roddy White (ATL) – White is the unabashed top target for Ryan with Julio Jones battling a hamstring injury. He made seven catches for 147 yards against Tennessee and gets a weak Minnesota secondary on Sunday.

Sit 'Em: WR Percy Harvin (MIN) – Harvin is an explosive playmaker, but he doesn't make enough of them to be fantasy worthy. His 15-point performance last week was just his third game above eight all season. Look for a more consistent option.

Sleeper: RB Toby Gerhart (MIN) – Should Peterson be forced to his the game with his ankle injury, Gerhart will step into the starting lineup. Atlanta's run defense is good, so temper expectations, but any starting RB is worth a flex play.

What They're Saying

Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune examined the consequences of Peterson's injury and how it will affect his backfield mates. Gerhart, a second-year Stanford product, will have the biggest opportunity to shine.

"

"It's an opportunity at Adrian's expense, which is something you don't really want," Gerhart said. "We're all hoping he gets better quick. But at the same time I'm excited. It's a chance for me to really show what I can do and be featured and have fun with it."

"

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter took a look at the Falcons' new no-huddle offensive attack. It proved successful against Tennessee, which probably means it will be used more prominently on Sunday.

"

The operation went so smooth the Falcons elected to stay in the no-huddle and handed the game over to Ryan, a fourth-year starter. He called 45 to 50 plays out of the no-huddle attack.

“I think Matt continues to show his [maturity] in terms of what he’s able to handle,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “I thought he did a very good job running the no-huddle offense.”

Vikings Player to Watch: DE Jared Allen

It hasn't been a year to remember for Minnesota's defense but Allen continues to rack up sacks at an elite level. He has 14, totaling 100 yards lost for the opposing offense, through 10 games and has a good chance to break his personal best (15.5) this week.

Falcons Player to Watch: TE Tony Gonzalez

Gonzalez continues to avoid Father Time by producing like few other tight ends can. He's caught 50 passes for 561 yards and seven touchdowns. He'll play a bigger role in the offense until Jones is ready to return from injury.

Key Matchup: RB Michael Turner vs. Vikings run defense

One of the lone bright spots for the Vikings this season has been run defense. They are allowing barely over 100 yards per game and will need to make Atlanta one-dimensional if they hope to pull off an upset. It won't be easy to stop Turner, who is having his best season since 2008.

On the Hot Seat: Falcons WR Harry Douglas

Douglas' ineffectiveness during his first two seasons was one of the main reasons Atlanta moved up to select Jones. He's now got a chance to prove significant progress had been made. An eight-catch outing against New Orleans two weeks ago was a step in the right direction.
