Can Tim Tebow Lead the Denver Broncos to a Playoff Berth?

Tony SantorsaNov 17, 2011

In the very wise words of Bill Belichick: "Stats are for losers. Final scores are for winners." That simple statement could not be more perfect for Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow—he is nothing short of a winner.

Tebow and the Denver Broncos did the impossible on Thursday Night Football as they knocked off the New York Jets 17-13. In fact, the Broncos did it in stunning fashion with Tebow running in the 20-yard game-winning touchdown with just 58 seconds left in the game.

With the victory, the Broncos are now 5-5 on the season and are more importantly 4-1 with Tebow as their starter. As Denver has somehow climbed their way back into the AFC playoff picture, can they actually surpass the Oakland Raiders and win the AFC West?

Entering Week 11, the argument could be made that all of Tebow's victories came against below-average football teams: the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs with his lone loss being against a legitimate playoff contender, the Detroit Lions.

However, everything changed tonight as Denver faced a very tough defense in the New York Jets and simply rose to the occasion and proved to the NFL that they can win football games with in an unorthodox fashion.

Denver now has six games remaining their schedule. The combined record of their opponents is 27-27, with half of those games being at home at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

So is it possible that the Broncos can make the playoffs? You bet.

What Tebow has is simply something that you cannot teach. Whatever "it" may be, it's completely remarkable and has won him four games this season.

If John Fox wants to win the division crown, then he needs to continue to construct plays around Tebow's strength—now is not the time to develop him into a traditional pro-style quarterback. It's Tebow Time and it's time to win.

What Denver did with 5:54 left on the clock on their own five-yard line was poetry in motion. The Broncos came out with single wing-esque plays, something that the NFL has not seen since the 1950s, and simply let their quarterback run isos, sprint outs and simply let his talent flourish.

If Denver can continue to utilize Tebow's talent and his skill set, then they can be a very difficult team to beat—just ask Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.

Whatever Tebow is doing, it's pretty damn ugly, but it's working and Denver's coaching staff needs to roll with it.

The Broncos can make the playoffs, as long as they continue to utilize Tebow's unique and almost inexplicable skill set and allow him to flourish and make the guys around him better.
