WWE Vengeance 2011 Results: Zack Ryder vs. Dolph Ziggler Was Too Predictable

Tim DanielsOct 24, 2011

When Air Boom was removed from ringside at Vengeance, the ending to the United States Championship match between Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler became predictable and reeked of lazy booking from the WWE.

While the goal was obviously to make Ryder look strong in defeat, using the same tactic everybody in the WWE Universe was expecting was far from the best way to make it happen.

Ryder had the upper hand for most of the match and got a far better crowd reaction than anything witnessed during the prior tag team battle, which had seen Air Boom defeat Ziggler and Jack Swagger.

The Long Island Iced Z has been getting a nice push lately thanks to the popularity gained from his YouTube show. But it was put on a temporary hold by Vickie Guerrero and Swagger, who pulled the cliché distraction and interference technique.

Notably absent from the proceedings was Mason Ryan, who has become heavily involved in the feud in recent weeks. Finding a way to make him level the playing field would have made for much better entertainment.

Instead, the WWE took the easy way out.

It was a common theme throughout the night, as no titles changed hands at Vengeance as building up for Survivor Series took precedent.

Storyline progression is important; there's no doubt about that. But you would think some of the tactics seen on Sunday would be more fit for RAW and SmackDown than a pay-per-view. Especially when it comes to Guerrero and Swagger.

Ryder has worked hard to develop his brand not only outside of the ring with Z! True Long Island Story but inside it as well. He's become a much more well-rounded wrestler and, while there's still room for improvement, he deserves a title run soon.

His “broskis” were hoping that would come over the next month during one of the more important times on the WWE calendar, which would allow him to showcase his talents when ratings spike with the return of The Rock.

However, the WWE decided the status quo was good enough and left one of its rising stars in limbo.

Hopefully Survivor Series is strong enough to make last night's obvious results worth it in the long run.
