2011 World Series Schedule: Big Road Win Puts Texas in Line to Win World Series

Tim KeeneyOct 21, 2011

As the Texas Rangers entered the ninth inning seemingly headed towards an 0-2 deficit in the World Series, I was still confident they would win the whole thing.

Now that they pulled off the amazing late-inning comeback, I'm much more confident they can do it, for whatever that's worth.

The Rangers now get three straight home games. If they don't win at least two of those three, I'll be shocked.

In those three games, Texas is likely to roll out Matt Harrison, Derek Holland and C.J Wilson. The Cardinals, on the other hand, will probably go with Kyle Lohse, Edwin Jackson and Chris Carpenter.

With the exception of Wilson vs. Carpenter, I give the starting pitching edge to Texas.

Matt Harrison has been good as of late, putting together two good starts so in these playoffs. For St. Louis, Kyle Lohse has been beaten up this postseason. He gave up five runs in five against Philly and lasted just 4.1 innings against Milwaukee.

In a likely Game 5 matchup, the Rangers get to face off against Edwin Jackson, who is essentially the definition of inconsistent.

He's put together one gem and one stinker so far this postseason. However, he was much worse on the road throughout the season, putting up a 4.76 ERA.

As far as Carpenter vs. Wilson, that's just a matchup of two aces, as Game 1 showed.

It appears the Rangers have the pitching advantage in the next three games. Even if they don't, it doesn't swing very far in St. Louis' favor.

Certainly not far enough to make up Texas' huge advantage in the hitting department.

Texas had quite possibly the best lineup in the majors this season, they were just constantly being derailed by injuries.

They are showing this postseason how explosive they can really be, and they'll continue to show it in the next three games.

While the next three games are incredibly key for both teams and will likely get looked back upon when the series is over, I think it's Game 2 that will prove to be the most important.

It gave the Rangers the advantage they now hold.
