WWE Vengeance 2011: 10 Huge Surprises We Could See at the Upcoming PPV
You know what I really like about professional wrestling?
Surprises. Well, the good kind, not the kind that make me want to throw my remote at the TV screen.
It's that "anything can happen" nature of the WWE that makes me tune in to Raw and Smackdown every week, and that's one of the main reasons why I'll be watching Vengeance this Sunday.
With the way the current storylines are setting up, we could see a number of shockers when the WWE invades San Antonio in just four days.
So, what will those shockers be?
Well, let's take a look at 10 potentially huge surprises that just might happen at the WWE's next pay-per-view.
Warning: This slideshow contains SPOILERS, so be forewarned.
10. Eve Torres Turns Heel
1 of 10A report broke last month that either Kelly Kelly or Eve Torres could be turning heel, but I find it hard to believe that K2 is going to be anything but a fan favorite anytime soon.
As for Eve, I could see her turning heel if the right situation presented itself, and that just might happen at Vengeance.
Here's how I see it going down: With Eve slated to wrestle Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship at the pay-per-view, Kelly Kelly could enter the arena mid-match and attempt to help Eve beat Beth for the title.
Instead, she'll inadvertently cost Eve the match, causing Eve to go crazy, attack K2 and beat the living crap out of her once the match is over.
There you have it, folks--Eve turns heel and begins a feud with Kelly Kelly, while the Divas of Doom move on to a rivalry with someone like Maryse or Alicia Fox.
It would give Eve something she's needed for quite a while now: A reason to care about to her character.
9. Kevin Nash Returns and Costs Triple H and CM Punk Their Match
2 of 10Kevin Nash started off as the centerpiece of a main event storyline between Triple H and CM Punk, but he's been off of TV for a while now to film some movie about a male stripper.
It remains to be seen if and when he'll come back, but it makes perfect sense for him to return at Vengeance when Triple H and CM Punk battle The Miz and R-Truth.
Obviously, Nash's beef lies with Punk and Triple H, so costing them their tag team match would reignite the feud between those three that seemed to die when Nash was written off of TV.
I'm not necessarily a fan of Nash being involved in Raw's main event storyline anymore--I don't think he serves much of a purpose if he can't wrestle on a consistent basis, but I also don't want to see him just go away.
I think he'll be back for vengeance on Punk and Triple H, and what better time to do that than at a pay-per-view called Vengeance?
8. Kane's Return
3 of 10Kane entered Mark Henry's "Hall of Pain" back in July, and he hasn't been seen since then.
That's going to change. Soon.
With Henry currently involved in a feud with Kane's former tag team partner The Big Show and reports that there will be a Championship Scramble match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series, it's highly like that The Big Red Monster will be back in the near future.
Why not at Vengeance?
Come on, we all know that Kane is a big fan of vengeance.
7. Zack Ryder Wins His First Singles Title
4 of 10Zack Ryder winning his first singles title in the WWE?
Woo woo woo, you know it!
Now that Ryder is finally getting his much-deserved United States Championship match against Dolph Ziggler (see Friday's Smackdown), the next step in the push of "Long Island Iced Z" is having him actually win the title.
Ziggler doesn't need the belt anymore, and having Ryder win it would go a long way in getting him even more over with the fans than he already is.
I still have this nagging feeling that Ziggler's going to go over in this match after getting some help from his heel buddies, but it would be a pleasant surprise to see Ryder, one of the WWE's biggest Internet darlings, get the win and take his career to the next level.
6. John Cena Losing a Last Man Standing Match
5 of 10With news that the WWE Championship match between Alberto Del Rio and John Cena will now be a Last Man Standing Match, my immediate reaction was, "Oh, man. I guess we're going to see Cena holding up that WWE title once again."
But is it a guarantee? Is Cena definitely going to walk away as WWE Champion? I don't think so.
I actually could see the Last Man Standing stipulation wind up helping Del Rio, who could get all kinds of assistance from Ricardo Rodriguez, Christian or any heel who seems to be revolting against the WWE. Cena, on the other hand, is not going to get any help; he's going to do things the honorable way.
I think Cena will actually lose this bout, thought it will come after a boatload of interference from guys trying to prevent Cena from winning the title for what seems like the 748th time.
5. Randy Orton Losing Clean for the Third Straight Pay-Per-View
6 of 10SPOILER ALERT: The following post contains SPOILERS from this Friday's episode of Smackdown.
OK, this isn't that big of a spoiler, but Cody Rhodes will face Randy Orton at Vengeance. No surprise there.
I do think we'll see a different sort of surprise, however, which is Orton losing clean for the third straight pay-per-view.
The Viper is one of a select few WWE stars who can lose clean multiple times and immediately rebound from it, and after losing clean to Mark Henry at the last two pay-per-views, I think he's going to do it again this Sunday.
WWE officials seem to be going full steam ahead with Rhodes' push, and it would be a massive vote of confidence to have him get the clean pin on Orton at Vengeance. He doesn't have to hit his finisher and then get the pin, he can win by rollup.
But I don't want to see Rhodes win with a dirty finish (even though that's likely the case) and would love to see Orton put someone else over by losing this match. After all, he can unleash hell and fury on Rhodes once the match is over and still keep his momentum going.
4. A Heel Turn for Triple H
7 of 10Triple H is currently one of the WWE's top babyfaces, and the walkout angle and ongoing storyline with John Laurinaitis has gotten him a ton of sympathy from the fans.
But, when this storyline first started, my gut told me that it would eventually lead to Triple H turning heel. I still think that's the case.
His "buddy buddy" relationship with CM Punk just isn't working for me, especially given the recent history between the two, and I could see Triple H turning on Punk during their match, walking out on him and letting him get beat down by The Miz and R-Truth.
How's that old saying go? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
That might be the case with Triple H, who, after being fed up with all the B.S. he's put up with as C.O.O., decides to stop playing nice and joins the heels because it's easier than fighting against them.
3. Daniel Bryan Cashes in His Money in the Bank Briefcase
8 of 10Daniel Bryan vowed to wait until WrestleMania 28 to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but if we know anything about the WWE, it's that the company loves to ignore history.
See: Christian and Edge being brothers, the anonymous Raw general manager, etc.
It would be typical WWE booking to completely forget about Bryan's promise and have him cash in long before WrestleMania, especially now that he's doing just about nothing on the Smackdown brand.
Like with Jack Swagger last year, the WWE likes to book their MITB winners like absolute crap and then have them cash in out of nowhere so that it will come as a bigger surprise when they do so.
Bryan cashing in at Vengeance is a long shot, but I'll never say never in the wrestling business. Much to the shock of everyone watching, he just might do it.
2. Shawn Michaels Back in a WWE Ring
9 of 10Vengeance takes place in San Antonio, Texas, and if you're a big WWE fan, you know that San Antonio is the hometown of WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels.
That means you're probably hoping, wishing and praying that HBK makes an appearance at the pay-per-view on Sunday.
Guess what? He just might do it.
There have already been reports that Michaels will appear at the pay-per-view to promote his upcoming DVD, and it almost seems like a certainty given what's going on between Triple H, Kevin Nash, John Laurinaitis, The Miz and R-Truth.
Don't be surprised if HBK's music hits on Sunday, and he runs down to the ring to deliver a Super Kick or two.
1. The Undertaker Returns to Stop Mark Henry
10 of 10Mark Henry has put The Great Khali, Kane and The Big Show on the shelf in recent months; that's one man taking care of three of the WWE's biggest monsters.
So, the question is: Who's going to be the one to stop the World's Strongest Man?
The Undertaker, that's who.
Though some are skeptical that Taker will return soon--because they think he'll only be back at WrestleMania, Survivor Series is right around the corner, and The Undertaker has become a staple of that pay-per-view.
He needs to be there, he needs to be the one who ends Henry's streak of dominance and he needs to return at Vengeance to do so.
Will it happen? I don't know, but if that gong hits on Sunday and Taker returns, I'll be one happy WWE fan.
