WWE: Why Triple H Is Better as a Wrestler Than as an Out-of-Ring Talent

Matthew HemphillOct 17, 2011

Triple H has always been a controversial character.  He has stepped on whoever he had to to get to the top and he made no qualms about it.  He bullied people in the locker room, married into the McMahon family, and continually pushed himself to be at the top.

He is also a great in-ring talent who has brought together great feuds and made incredible moments whenever he has been involved.  Though he is a bit egotistical, he has backed it up every single time.

Triple H is now nearing the end of his ability to be a wrestler.  He just turned 42.  Even if he isn't stepping into the ring and appearing in house shows every night, a day will come when can't compete anymore.

He has started to accept this and has started to take a bigger hand in the WWE's backstage and managerial duties.  He is getting ready for the day when he can't be a wrestler anymore.

The problem is that even though he can acknowledge this, his ego seems to oppose it.

He just can't stop being at the center stage.  Take a second to look at last week's RAW.

Just like the last few months, where Triple H has pushed himself into the center of the spotlight he did the same thing back in 2006 at Survivor Series.  In fact, he's done it most of his career.

Even though Triple H should be getting ready to take a job that involves an out-of-ring character he still keeps finding ways to put it off.

It's the same reason he has kept his theme music from Motorhead.  It's the same reason he has kept his ponytail.

They seem small, but these things keep him from being anything else, but they prevent him from being anything else but the Cerebral Assassin.

He just isn't ready to stop being a wrestler.  That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it depends.

If he continues to put himself over everyone else, it would be disastrous.  If he learns to let others get the wins and be put on the pedestal, it could be the crowning achievement to his in-ring career and the start to a great one outside of it.

The fact is that Triple H seems to not be willing to let go of his character.  He wants one last run as the wrestler and entertainer he was and still wants to be.

If he can use it to give up the spotlight to someone else, then he will not only help the company, but he can help himself to move on.
