2011 NFL Season: Tony Romo Should Just Worry About Winning in Week 6
Tony Romo, the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys, is never out of the news for long. However, stories involving the much-publicized media magnet that played his college ball at Eastern Illinois usually have to do with his poor performances on Sunday.
Well, he found himself in the news once again on Thursday, only his stats were not to blame this time—his mouth was.
Romo, responding to criticism from Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, promised Thursday that the Dallas Cowboys will "win a Super Bowl, at some point."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Is Romo implying that he will be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback? Confidence is important for both players and teams, but really, Tony. Ask Rex Ryan how making guarantees has worked out for him. Every year he comes out and proclaims that the Jets will win the Super Bowl. With two straight AFC Championship game defeats, he has come closer to reaching the promised land than Romo.
The Super Bowl should always be the ultimate goal, but prove you belong in that game by playing well, because if trash-talking and cockiness won the big game every year, the Jets would have won the last two Super Bowls.
Disregarding the fact that Romo has not played particularly well in big games throughout his career, he has won one playoff game to date.
Who could forget that botched field goal against the Seattle Seahawks in 2007? Romo drove the Cowboys down the field for an easy 19-yard attempt to win the game, only the kick proved to be more difficult than everybody anticipated.
Romo bobbled the snap and tried to scramble to the end zone, but fell one yard short. Kevin Dyson, former Tennessee Titans wide receiver, knows all to well the pain of coming up a yard short.
Besides Romo’s past play, his streak of inconsistent quarterback play this season does not bode well for the Cowboys. In Week 2, he led an impressive comeback against the San Francisco 49ers. Then in Week 4, he inexplicably throws two straight interceptions that get returned for touchdowns. In that game against the Detroit Lions, he threw a total of three interceptions.
It’s tough for any team, even one that has as much as talent the Cowboys, to win if your QB cannot hold onto the ball.
Until Romo stops throwing the ball to the other team in pressure situations, the Cowboys will continue to struggle to win games, let alone the Super Bowl. Jerry Jones wants to win and he wants to win now.
If Tony Romo wants to remain the quarterback of “America’s Team” he needs start playing consistent QB.
