Theo Epstein Rumors: GM Expected to Join the Chicago Cubs
The MLB offseason has not even begun yet, and one of the biggest moves of the year is likely to occur within the next two days. It has been reported by Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald that Theo Epstein is on the cusp of joining the Chicago Cubs.
Epstein was able to help one cursed franchise, the Boston Red Sox, win two World Series titles. Their 86-year drought ended in 2004, and the Red Sox won once again in 2007.
Now, it looks like Epstein will have a chance to help a franchise break their curse. The Chicago Cubs' drought has now reached 103 years and the Cubs are banking on the fact that Epstein is the man that can help them end it.

One of the major issues holding up Epstein's possible move to the Cubs is the fact that he is still under contract with the Boston Red Sox. If Boston is going to let Epstein leave, it is likely that they will want something in return from the Cubs.
If Epstein does move to the Cubs, it is being reported by The Boston Herald that he will have "powers greater than he has in Boston." Considering the fact that Epstein was the architect of two World Series Champion teams, this would be a big development.
The Boston Red Sox would be in a tough position this winter if they lose Epstein. They have already declined their option on manager Terry Francona for the 2012 season. The Red Sox's search for a new manager may not be able to start until the team finds a new GM.
