WWE Raw Review: 7 Crucial Points to Take Away From Last Night
Last night's Raw SuperShow had the potential to be extremely entertaining and different. With only four superstars being recognized for sticking around in support of Triple H, nobody really knew what to expect.
When John Cena, Sheamus and CM Punk came down to the ring to tell their boss they weren't going anywhere, they all took different roles of controlling the show at the time.
In reality, we all should have seen where this was going, but none of us wanted to admit that was the case.
Here are a few things that we learned from last night's show.
1. CM Punk and Sheamus Are No Longer Tweeners
1 of 7After everything Punk has worked so hard for after walking out with the WWE Championship and converting from a major heel to an in-between, none of that seems to matter to the company anymore.
He made watching promos look cool again and brought his huge ego and attitude with him every time he stepped foot in the ring. Last night, he was made out to be yet another company man, making him as significant as Cena. Problem with that is, Punk was better than Cena because he wasn't a heel but he also wasn't about to roll over for the company if he didn't want to.
Miraculously, he's changed his ways and now is almost on the same level of the guy he put most of the blame on for hating the company just a few months ago.
This makes Punk appear to be a hypocrite himself when he was calling everybody else hypocritical.
Sheamus is a curious case. He has the aggression and physical presence to be a major heel, but he also possesses a little innocence in his personality. You know, the way he's always calling everybody else "Fella"? His face turn wasn't something that surprised any of us, as him as a strong heel was dying off rapidly.
Except, the only thing that made him a face before was that he was fighting heels like Mark Henry and Christian. There was never that introductory moment for him to be that guy.
Sheamus as a face has the potential to do great things for his career, especially if and when he faces Mark Henry in his inevitable title match. Last night when he went down to tell Triple H he was staying, he played up the crowd more than John Cena did. He's now officially over as that lovable guy with crazy red hair.
However over with the crowd both Sheamus and Punk are now, it takes away from their mean streak that made them so much fun to watch. Punk's edginess and Sheamus' brute strength will now take a minor backseat to create them to be great faces. What made them special is now what makes them like everybody else.
2. John Morrison Is Gone
2 of 7Rumors have been flying around this weekend about the possibility of John Morrison's contract expiring in the not-too-distant future. If there was ever any doubt about his future with the WWE, last night should have been a clear indication.
Walking back in building, Morrison decided to let the new boss know how he feels about him. He was rewarded by having a match in his street clothes against Christian. Not only did Morrison succumb to another jobber match, he was subsequently speared, Cross-Rhodesed, Zig-Zagged and Gut Wrench power-bombed.
Although lately he has been facing the top talent in the organization, none of his matches have been for the purpose of building his character. Rather, he is there to make his opponents look good. His matches are now shorter than most divas' matches, which are notorious for their extreme lack of length.
Morrison is unhappy with his direction right now, the company is upset with him for multiple reasons, and Melina is causing problems as usual. making it even harder for Morrison to rebuild.
It's painfully obvious Morrison is on his way out—the real question now is when it's going to happen.
3. Vickie's Super Stable Grows
3 of 7It started out with just Dolph Ziggler. Then after a few weeks of debating, she added Jack Swagger. Then, in the blink of an eye, she had added Christian, David Otunga, Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett. It's amazing what a simple protest can do for a girl's career.
Vickie Guerrero, before now, had never had more than one client at a time. Dolph even tried to discourage her from adding Swagger but she went out and got him anyway. Vickie is also branching out, no longer staying primarily with Raw superstars. SmackDown stars like Christian and Barrett who had very little direction going for them are now part of the stable that could change things in the WWE.
Already having the Intercontinental and United States Championships to the group's credit is impressive enough. When you add the talent of all the men in the group, this is something that could be great.
4. Kelly Kelly Continues Aggression, Eve Wins Match
4 of 7Kelly Kelly and Eve, for about the 20th time this year, teamed together in a tag team contest.
Kelly continued to show how angry she was at losing her Diva's title in the manner that she did by going after Rosa on the outside in a very angry fashion, much like she did last week. Eve managed to pick up the victory for the team by pinning Tamina.
Now is when the diva's scene starts to look very bleak. This is at least the second time that Kelly was not the one getting the winning pin fall in one of their tag team matches, while Eve was the one doing the dirty work.
Eve even pinned Natalya in a tag team match about a month ago, which brings to question shouldn't Eve be getting a title shot in the near future. After all, she did hold the title for much of the year before creative took the wildly stupid route of making the Bella Twins champion.
Kelly certainly will get her rematch eventually, but after her, who's next?
My money is on Eve getting a title shot before the year ends.
5. Orton Is Officially out of the World Title Picture, for Now
5 of 7Mark Henry is now feuding with Big Show over the World Title, leaving Randy Orton to feud with Cody Rhodes over the Intercontinental Championship. Monday proved to be the nail in the coffin for Orton going against Henry.
The first indication was the fact Orton and Henry had a match on cable that didn't involve the title being on the line. That's creative's way of letting people know they will no longer be fighting for the same title for the time being.
The second action was that of Rhodes interfering in the match and along with Henry, laying waste to the Viper. Rhodes then decided to add insult to injury by placing one of his paper bags on Orton's head, symbolizing Rhodes cutting the head off of the lethal Viper.
With Big Show back for his revenge on the man who took him out of action at Money in the Bank, that leaves no room for Orton in that title picture. Rhodes is looking to avenge the heinous attack by Orton a few weeks ago that gave him the pleasure of nine staples in his head.
Orton being out of the hunt for the top gold opens the door for different superstars to get their time in the spotlight. This is something good for SmackDown.
6. Triple H Back to Wrestling Regularly?
6 of 7Now that Triple H isn't running Raw anymore, it appears more and more likely that he may go back to somewhat of a full-time wrestling schedule.
He already had a match at Night of Champions and is now booked to team with Punk against Miz and R-Truth. And why shouldn't he be wrestling more often? He's got nothing better to do now.
Instead of stating behind his suit about how the guys that walked out should be fighting to get what they want instead of lawsuits and lawyers, he can show them how it's done properly.
Hunter now has the opportunity to use his physical skills in the ring to get to the bottom of who exactly was the man leading the charge to have him thrown overboard. He's got the chance few bosses have. He can take all of his aggression out on those who defied him while he was in charge.
Hunter wrestling is something that can get everybody excited, and it should be very interesting to see who he ends up feuding with first.
7. John Laurinatis Is the New Sheriff in Town, Big Whoop
7 of 7Johnny Ace is now taking over Raw, and there couldn't be worse news than that. Having him leading is only going to create even more problems for the talent, and it's going to infuriate fans watching everywhere.
How many times do we need to hear from his mouth that he's "John Laurinatis, Executive Vice President of Talent Relations"? It's more irritating than hearing Ricardo Rodriguez introduce Alberto Del Rio every week.
He has no business running Raw and shouldn't have his character appear on television.
Also, having him take over last night shed some light on just how much the company failed with that position in the last year.
The anonymous general manager angle was promising, but has since not been mentioned once Triple H took over. Once Hunter was in charge, his position was that of Chief Operating Officer, not general manager of Raw. It started off that way—he would stick his nose in both Raw and SmackDown. His interest in SD quickly faded, and he started to appear more and more primarily on Raw.
Then when the announcement came last night that Hunter was relieved of his duties and John was taking over as general manager of Raw, it made everything extremely redundant. It was stated his position is temporary, and he will be relieved once they find a suitable replacement.
A suitable replacement? What about the guy running the show from his computer? Did that just completely vanish now and we act like it never happened? I refuse to do that. The anonymous general manager needs to be revealed at some point.
Triple H was not hired as Raw general manager, he appeared as the COO, running the entire company not just one show. Also, Triple H wasn't fired from COO, he was fired from general manager of Raw, a position he never even held.
This whole story just continues to get jumbled up and it can only get worse with John taking over. This is going to be a huge flop.
