WWE: How CM Punk Is the Cause of Raw's Major Storyline with Triple H

Tom ClarkOct 8, 2011

On June 27, 2011, the pro wrestling world came to a screeching halt.  In the closing moments of Monday Night Raw, one man was responsible for bringing wrestling fans to the edge of their seats, in a shocking moment that none of us will ever forget.

That man is CM Punk, and with only a mic, and 5.90 seconds, he ushered in a new age in WWE.
The “Reality era” began with the promo heard around the world. Since then, nothing has been the same.

Punk went from being a Superstar whose future in WWE was questionable and uncertain at best, to being the hottest commodity in the business.  All he needed was an opportunity.

Of course, just saying incendiary things against Vince McMahon and his family does not guarantee that anyone will care, after all, guys have been taking shots at them for years.

But, to say it the way he did, on live WWE television, sparked an interest in fans that has arguably not been seen since the days of the original nWo.

It made no difference that the spot was done in a controlled environment, with the blessing of Vince himself, Punk is so good, so effective, that it came off as very believable.

Basically, Punk said what fans have been saying for a long time, and it put him over more than any one wrestler ever could.

Punk has the kind of push that most guys only dream of, and he must be having the time of his life being in the position he’s in.  This is what being a pro wrestler on the big stage of WWE is all about, and CM Punk is making the best of it.

As for the rest of the talent on RAW, as with any other major main event storyline, they are all along for the ride.

Among that talent is the man who is the heir apparent to the company, Triple H.

Triple H’s appointment as the C.O.O of WWE is a direct result of Punk’s promo and the events that followed.  Without Vince’s inability to prevent Punk from leaving with the WWE Championship, he would never have been “fired,” and Triple H slid into his spot on TV.

Miz and R-Truth would not have tagged together, because Miz would not have believed in a conspiracy, and thus they would not have been “fired” which led to the assault at Hell in a Cell.

Now, Monday Night Raw is up in the air after the majority of the roster walked out on Triple H, in protest of the unsafe work environment that they feel he has caused.

And all of this is thanks to one guy, and his desire to have his own WWE ice cream bar.
While surely none of us expected the CM Punk angle to go this far, the majority of fans have always known that he was more than capable of carrying the top storyline in the company.

He is just that good.

When Punk talks, he connects on a level that only the best talkers in the business can.  He seems very real, very honest, as if his character is actually him, the same guy on and off camera.

The way he smiles at the crowd, shrugging his shoulders in an ironic “aw shucks” moment, showing fans that he’s in on the joke.  The times that he reacts to what Triple H is saying with an exaggerated expression of surprise.

Though he seems very flippant in these instances, at times perhaps even on the verge of breaking character, the fact is he knows what fans want from him.  All he does is deliver, every time.

What began as a worked shoot has evolved into the biggest storyline in WWE.  The angle that once focused on a disgruntled employee who walked out with the top prize has now sucked other workers in, and is deciding the current direction of the biggest pro wrestling company in the world.

As the “walkout” is discussed, and its potential outcome predicted, let us remember that if it were not for the working class wrestler who made it big, none of this would have been possible.

Who said one man couldn’t change the world?
