Green Bay Packers vs Atlanta Falcons: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, and More

Tim DanielsOct 5, 2011

The Green Bay Packers travel south to take on the Atlanta Falcons in one of the weekend's marquee NFL games. Last week, the Packers picked up a convincing victory over the Denver Broncos while the Falcons held off a late charge from the Seattle Seahawks.

Green Bay is one of just two remaining teams with an undefeated record through four weeks. Unfortunately for the Packers, the other one resides in their division (Detroit Lions). Aaron Rodgers has been on target since the season opener and is already building a strong MVP case,

Things have been a little more of a struggle for Atlanta. Road losses to the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers leave the Falcons at .500 as they pass the quarter pole. The continued development of wide receiver Julio Jones is the key to making the offense an elite unit.

What's at Stake?

Aside from wanting to remain perfect, the Packers are trying to get as big of a lead in the playoff race as possible so they can play it safe with their stars during the final weeks. They appear well on the way to another deep playoff run and don't want a late injury to send them into a tailspin.

Green Bay's secondary will also receive a good measuring stick from Atlanta's offense. A combination of injuries and poor play from that part of the defense is the only question mark about the team right now. It's still early though, so there's a lot of time for improvement.

Seven of the Falcons' final 12 games are at home, so it's not time to panic yet in Atlanta. The offense will eventually start clicking on all cylinders, it has too much talent not to, but the defense has allowed at least 28 points in three of four games.

Even though matching last season's 13-3 record seems out of the question at this point, the playoffs still remain a realistic possibility. However, in order to reach that goal the Falcons are going to get off their current win-one, lose-one pace.

What They're Saying

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel passes along some quotes from former Packers quarterback Brett Favre about current starter Aaron Rodgers along with some his own thoughts on the old gunslinger.

"

What you get from Brett Favre, when he talked about Aaron Rodgers during a radio on Tuesday, is a dash of generosity, a dearth of grace, an absence of clarity and an admiration couched in backhanded compliments.

Talk about a passive-aggressive expression of praise for your successor.

In the interview the former Packers quarterback did with a radio station in Atlanta, WQXI-AM (790), Favre was asked what his thoughts were as he watched Rodgers and the Packers during their championship run last season.

"I’m going to be honest, I was not surprised," Favre said. "The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn’t do it sooner."

"

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution passes along the “Tale of the Tape” for this weekend's NFC clash and starts by mentioning Matt Ryan's success against his QB counterpart.

"

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is 2-1 in head-to-head matchups with Aaron Rodgers.

As a rookie, Ryan led the Falcons to a 27-24 victory on Oct. 5, 2008 at Lambeau Field. Rodgers passed for 313 yards and had a passer rating of 109.4 in that game.

Last season, the Falcons beat the Packers 20-17 on Nov. 28 at the Georgia Dome. Rodgers passed for 344 yards and had a passer rating of 114.5.

Packers Player to Watch
: TE Jermichael Finley

Looking at Finley's cumulative stats through four weeks they are pretty impressive for a tight end. The problem is he accumulated most of them in one game against the Chicago Bears, including all three of his touchdown catches. The Packers have a lot of weapons, so they spread it around well, but getting Finley involved more often would benefit an already great offense.

Falcons Player to Watch
: WR Julio Jones

The Falcons obviously had a lot of confidence in Jones to trade away so many picks in order to get him at this year's draft and he slowly starting to show why. He still hasn't found the end zone but he has gone over 100 yards in two straight weeks and has looked dominant in doing so.

Key Matchup
: Charles Woodson vs Roddy White

Green Bay will probably rotate its corners around throughout the game, so this matchup won't occur on every snap. That said, when it does happen it will be a terrific battle between two men near the top of their respective positions.

Woodson already has three interceptions in four games, including a pick-six. Even though he might have lost a step or two since he left Michigan, he's among the most reliable corners in the league.

White's stock continues to rise each week Jones plays well because it means the defense can't afford to double or triple team him every week. He's still Ryan's main target and is one of the elite wide outs in the NFL.

On the Hot Seat: Packers RB Ryan Grant

Grant had the best game of his season in Week 3 before being forced to miss last week's game with a kidney injury. He's been cleared to get back on the field and will be looking to regain his fair share of the workload from James Starks.

The coaching staff seems committed to splitting the carries, but Grant can't afford a poor performance against Atlanta.
