WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: Air Boom Continues to Reignite Tag Team Division
Air Boom (Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston) was able to escape another pay-per-view with the WWE Tag Team Championships by defeating Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler at Hell in a Cell. The high-flying team continues to draw huge fan reaction and has breathed life into a previously dying division.
After having to deal with the duo of David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty for three months, it's only right for Air Boom to receive an extended title run.
Neither Bourne nor Kingston had a place in the company before forming a team. Kingston's United States Title run never lived up due to its full potential because he lacks mic skills and Bourne was rarely seen on RAW.

They both have limited move sets that are tailor-made for tag team competition and there is basically no need for mic skills. Instead of trying to force each of them into a mid-card singles feud, they are reigniting interest in the tag team division.
Probably not since the original run by the Nexus in late 2010 has the crowd been so involved tag team matches. And Air Boom even has them beat.
The duo has taken what was a dead portion of every RAW and PPV and made it fun again. Some have complained that the team was just thrown together without any rhyme or reason and based on storylines, that is probably true.
But from a business point-of-view, it was clear both guys were getting consistently good reactions and moving merchandise and there was no where to put them. So a fledgling tag-team division was the perfect fit.
There are so many moving parts leading up to Survivor Series that there would have been no chance Kingston or Bourne would have received airtime over the next couple months without this move.
You can downgrade them for a lack of skills on the mic and you can say they are all flash with no substance. Heck, you might be right. But what you also must admit is that they are making the Tag Team Championships relevant again and the mainstream fans are loving every minute of it.
And when the tag titles matter, the WWE is a more enjoyable product.
