Fantasy Football Week 2: Why You Need to Start Redskins RB Tim Hightower

John RozumSep 13, 2011

After a rather disappointing beginning to his career with the Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins' RB Tim Hightower has revived his career, at least for the time being.

So why should Hightower earn a start in Week 2 of your fantasy football league?

Well, let us first examine and dissect his Week 1 performance, and then breakdown what he can do this upcoming week.

First off, the New York Giants weren't suppose to lose this game, as they are considered to be the one team that can match the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title.

Obviously now, that is not the case, as the Redskins have clearly made a solid statement of their own.

Which includes RB Tim Hightower, who compiled 72 rushing yards on 25 carries, including one TD.

He also caught three passes for 25 yards, thus totaling 100 for the day on 28 touches. Not bad against a solid defensive unit such as the Giants.

And once you add the numbers up, in most fantasy leagues that comes to 16 points (ten for yardage, six for the TD), and some leagues may even allow that one point per reception, so Hightower scored as many as 19 in Week 1.

Also, in knowing that Rex Grossman is Washington's QB, you have to expect that Hightower's contributions are only going to increase, because, let's be honest, you never really know what you're going to get from Grossman when he's under center for a full season.

Moving on to his Week 2 matchup, Tim Hightower and the Redskins play host to the 1-0 Arizona Cardinals.

Now, although the Cards' only allowed 74 total rushing yards against the Carolina Panthers, it was mainly because rookie QB Cam Newton was given the green light by head coach Ron Rivera.

In turn, Newton performed by throwing for 422 yards and two TDs.

Therefore, not only can you expect Grossman to have a solid game, but at the same token, Hightower will most certainly get his.

From Arizona's perspective, they will be focusing on significantly improving their pass defense, which is going to make their run defense vulnerable from the start.

That's where Hightower will do most of his damage on the ground, but the Cardinals will adjust.

And when that happens, look for Tim to get some receptions to keep Ken Whisenhunt's defense honest, as Mike Shanahan will allow Grossman to air it out.

By game's end, it's not unreasonable to believe that Hightower will have accumulated over 150 total yards and about two TDs.

Arizona's defense is very susceptible, and, after Week 1, the Redskins are rolling in an immense amount of confidence, especially with another home game.
