MLB: Handing out 1 Award to a Representative from All 30 Teams

Robert KnapelSep 7, 2011

With the season coming to an end, awards will soon be given out to the best players in each league. However, not every team will have an award recipient.

Here at Bleacher Report, we have decided that every team gets to have a winner. It is just like how everyone gets a trophy during Little League. No one gets left out.

Some of the awards are serious predictions while others are just a bit of fun.

Arizona Diamondbacks: NL MVP (Justin Upton)

1 of 30

The race for the NL MVP award will certainly be a close one. Matt Kemp is having a better year than Justin Upton but Upton is more valuable.

Without Upton the Arizona Diamondbacks would not be in first place in the NL West. He has finally developed into the player that he was expected to become and has been an integral part of the Diamondbacks' success this year.

Atlanta Braves: NL ROY (Craig Kimbrel)

2 of 30

Craig Kimbrel may be taking home more than one piece of hardware this year. He has not only been the best rookie in the National League but he has also been the league's best reliever.

Kimbrel has quickly established himself as an elite closer. The Atlanta Braves known that the game is theirs if they enter the ninth with a lead.

Baltimore Orioles: Worst Starting Rotation

3 of 30

The Baltimore Orioles have the worst starting rotation in baseball by a fairly wide margin. The ERA of their starters this season is well above 5.00.

The article's title states that the award will be given to one representative from each team. In this case, Brian Matusz will receive the award on the Orioles' behalf. In 10 starts this year Matusz has a 1-7 record with a 9.84 ERA.

New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

Boston Red Sox: Best Team in the AL

4 of 30

There is a strong chance that this will be the most debated award given out. Yankees fans will likely chime in that their team is better than the Boston Red Sox and that their record indicates it.

However, the Red Sox have a slight edge over the Yankees. They have an outstanding offense and their rotation is comparable to that of the Yankees.

Chicago Cubs: Second Best Team in Chicago

5 of 30

Congratulations Cubs fans! Your team has finally won something.

Granted, this award is given to the second best baseball team in Chicago, but when you haven't won a World Series in over 100 years, it is not as if you can be too picky about the awards that your team wins.

This one will certainly look good in the trophy case.

Chicago White Sox: Most Disappointing Player (Adam Dunn)

6 of 30

Adam Dunn wins this award by a large margin. The Chicago White Sox must be mortified at how poorly their $56 million investment has performed this season.

Dunn could finish the year with the lowest batting average of any player who qualifies for the batting title. He also currently has a higher on-base percentage than slugging percentage.

Other players who have had this notable accomplishment include revered power hitters such as Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre.

Cincinnati Reds: Player Who Deserves More Attention (Joey Votto)

7 of 30

It may seem crazy to suggest that the player who won the NL MVP Award the previous year deserves more attention.

However, Joey Votto has not gotten the attention he deserves in part because of the impending free agencies of Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder and in part because he plays in Cincinnati.

Votto has quickly developed into one of the game's superstars and he is quite possibly the best first baseman in baseball.

Cleveland Indians: AL Manager of the Year (Manny Acta)

8 of 30

The Cleveland Indians have fallen off from their hot start and the top spot in the AL Central but they are still having a good season. Manny Acta is responsible for the Indians' success.

He has done a great job this year and has overcome both injuries and having to rely on young players to fill spots in the everyday lineup.

Colorado Rockies: Biggest Trade (Ubaldo Jimenez Deal)

9 of 30

Based on how he has performed since he was traded, it seems as if the Colorado Rockies knew something about Ubaldo Jimenez that the rest of the MLB was unaware of. This deal was the biggest move of the year.

The Rockies acquired two fantastic young pitchers Alex White and Drew Pomeranz, that should anchor their rotation for years to come in addition to two other players.

Detroit Tigers: AL Cy Young (Justin Verlander)

10 of 30

Justin Verlander is having one of the most dominant pitching seasons since Pedro Martinez dominated during the Steroid Era. The Detroit Tigers' pitcher has made hitters look silly all year.

Verlander is currently leading the American League in wins, ERA and strikeouts and could potentially win the AL Pitching Triple Crown this year. He was already an All-Star this year and Verlander should get another honor on top of that.

Florida Marlins: Strongest Power Hitter (Mike Stanton)

11 of 30

Mike Stanton's raw power is absolutely incredible. It would not be surprising to see him hit a home run out of a stadium before his career is over.

Stanton is a pure power hitter and he takes a number of big swings. When he makes contact, the ball can fly off of his bat into the sky before landing 400+ feet later.

Houston Astros: Verne Troyer Award (Best Peformance by a Little Person)

12 of 30

This award goes out to Jose Altuve. The Houston Astros is listed at 5' 7", 170 lbs., but many believe that those are very generous measurements and that Altuve is not even 170 lbs. when he is soaking wet.

Altuve provides a very valuable lesson that size is not all the matters. What is important is how you use it.

Altuve should be a positive example to anyone who was told that they are too small to do something.

Kansas City Royals: AL Comeback Player of the Year (Alex Gordon)

13 of 30

After last season it seamed as if Alex Gordon would never live up to his potential as the number two overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft.

Gordon had spent parts of the last two seasons in the minors and that time appears to be paying off. He has had one of the best seasons in the American League this year.

Los Angles Angels: AL Rookie of the Year (Mark Trumbo)

14 of 30

There were a few other choices for the American League Rookie of the Year Award, but Mark Trumbo just edged out the competition. His big power numbers made up for his batting average.

Trumbo wins this award despite not even being the best rookie on his own team. That award goes to Mike Trout, but he did not spend enough time in the majors this year to try to have a chance to win this award.

Los Angeles Dodgers: Worst Drama (Frank McCourt Situation)

15 of 30

Los Angeles is home to a number of movie and television production companies and has a long history of producing dramas. The latest drama to come out of Los Angeles is worthy of a Razzie.

Frank McCourt's divorce has wreaked havoc on the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization. He has struggled to make payroll and the off-the-field situation has clearly impacted the team.

Milwaukee Brewers: Best Mustache (John Axford)

16 of 30

John Axford teaches fans a good lesson in keeping it fresh. He constantly mixes up his mustache style and each and every time he comes up with a better look.

The mustachioed reliever has been a key part of the Milwaukee Brewers success. There is also a rumor that Axford is like the Biblical Sampson. If you cut off his mustache he will lose his pitching abilities.

Minnesota Twins: Most Disappointing AL Team

17 of 30

In both 2009 and 2010, the Minnesota Twins won the American League Central and made it to the playoffs. Expectations were high for the Twins once again.

However, they have struggled with injuries and poor play this year and are now just fighting to stay out of the cellar. This will end up as the Twins worst season since 2000 when their best player was Brade Radke.

New York Mets: Best New Uniforms (Los Mets)

18 of 30

The New York Mets have struggled through yet another season. However, they had one bright (blue) point of the year. In support of Hispanic heritage, the Mets wore the Los Mets jerseys seen here.

It has been announced that the Mets plan to use the jersey without the "Los" and put it into their regular rotation for 2013. This is a great decision, as the jerseys look fantastic while the team has not.

New York Yankees: AL Rolaids Relief Man (Mariano Rivera)

19 of 30

Surprisingly, Mariano Rivera has only won the AL Rolaids Relief Man Award five times in his career. This year, he should pick up his sixth award.

The New York Yankees' closer is a future Hall of Famer and has been an important part of the team's success over the past two decades.

Oakland Athletics: Best Story Behind Their Logo

20 of 30

Many people have probably wondered why the Oakland Athletics have an elephant as a part of their secondary logo. Elephants are not exactly nimble and agile creatures that are considered to be athletic.

The logo actually comes as the result of a insult that was issued by John McGraw all the way back in 1902. It has stuck with the team for years.

Philadelphia Phillies: NL Cy Young (Roy Halladay)

21 of 30

The Philadelphia Phillies have the best starting rotation in baseball. There is even a case to be argued that Roy Halladay is not the team's best pitcher.

However, Halladay is the most deserving player when it comes to the Cy Young voting. He is having an outstanding year and he is one of the best pitchers of the Steroid Era.

Pitsburgh Pirates: Best First Half Surprise

22 of 30

No one expected much from the Pittsburgh Pirates this year which is why it was incredibly surprising when they were in first place a few months into the season. They looked like they had a chance to contend for the NL Central title.

After a good few months, the Pirates have finally fell back down to Earth. The team may have a bright future but their time is not now.

San Diego Padres: Most Disappointing NL Team

23 of 30

It is amazing how quickly things can change. Last year the San Diego Padres were the most surprising team in the National League. This year they are the league's most disappointing team.

The Padres will once again finish the year with a losing record. It should be interesting to see where next season takes them.

San Francisco Giants: NL Comeback Player of the Year (Carlos Beltran)

24 of 30

Carlos Beltran may not have earned this award while he was a member of the San Francisco Giants, but he is a part of their team now because of his performance.

After it was thought that Beltran might be done, he put together an outstanding season. This made him one of the top trade targets at the trade deadline.

Seattle Mariners: Catch of the Year (Trayvon Robinson)

25 of 30

Just after he was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers as a part of the three team deal that was centered around Erik Bedard, Trayvon Robinson made the catch of the year. Talk about an instant impact.

Robinson has not been that great offensively this year in the majors, but he should develop in the future.

St. Louis Cardinas: Biggest Non-Story of the Year (Albert Pujols' Contract)

26 of 30

There have been a number of stories about Albert Pujols' impending free agency. Where will he go? How much will he get paid? Why won't he discuss his contract during the season?

Pujols is still a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. None of these questions need an answer now. Pujols may not go anywhere and yet way to much has been made of his contract situation.

Tampa Bay Rays: I Told You so Award (Desmond Jennings)

27 of 30

It seemed as if Desmond Jennings was ready for the major leagues months ago. The Tampa Bay Rays did not promote him and saw him continue to dominate the minors.

Jennings finally got a call up and his talent became clear. He has been the Rays' best player since he was called up to the majors and his performance has people wondering why he had to wait so long to get a chance.

Texas Rangers: Best Bullpen

28 of 30

A few months ago, the Texas Rangers would not have won this award. They realized that they did not have the best bullpen in MLB but felt that it was something essential to having a chance to win the World Series.

The Rangers went out and improved their bullpen. They acquired Mike Adams, Koji Uehara and Mike Gonzalez to improve their bullpen. With Neftali Feliz closing, it is hard for the opposition to score after the sixth inning.

Toronto Blue Jays: AL MVP (Jose Bautista)

29 of 30

Even though his team, the Toronto Blue Jays, are near the bottom of the American League East, Jose Bautista will come away with the American League MVP Award.

He is the best player in baseball and he leads the American League in home runs, walks, OBP, SLG %, OPS and OPS+.

Washington Nationals: Most Anticipated Return (Stephen Strasburg)

30 of 30

While his 2011 debut did not match the magic of his 2010 debut, Stephen Strasburg's first start of the year for the Washington Nationals was still a major accomplishment. He managed to get back on the mound a year after Tommy John surgery.

His recovery will continue after the season ends and he should be back and even stronger next year. Hopefully we will once again see the pitcher who stuck out 14 with ease.
