Predicting Every Seattle Seahawks' Game in 2011
One game of the 2011 preseason has been played, and very little is known about this new Seahawks team and how they will mesh or what their potential is.
So, this is the perfect time to predict their regular season record, right?
Of course not. Realistically, the Seahawks will have a different record than this article will have, but until then, here are the Seahawks game-by-game predictions for the 2011 regular season.
Enjoy and feel free to leave as much criticism as needed below!
Week 1: Seattle at San Francisco
1 of 18In Week 1, I see the many new Seahawks uncertain and confused, especially with a young offensive line and probably a new quarterback and No. 1 wide receiver in Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice respectfully.
That youthful image may be contrasted with the San Francisco 49ers and their veteran leadership from Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis and Alex Smith. If Alex Smith is able to start Week 1 (which I expect he will), expect a more stable and balanced passing attack than with Seattle.
Week 1: San Francisco over Seattle (0-1)
Week 2: Seattle at Pittsburgh
2 of 18Wow. Seattle's offense will really be put to the test against this daunting Steelers defense in Week 2.
I think Tarvaris Jackson and Marshawn Lynch will be hard-pressed to gain any sort of yardage in this game, and something tells me that the Seahawks inexperienced cornerbacks will not be able to put up with Mike Wallace, Hines Ward and Big Ben all game.
Easy pick for me.
Week 2: Pittsburgh over Seattle (0-2)
Week 3: Seattle vs. Arizona
3 of 18The first game at Century Link Field will provide Seahawks fans with a little bit of a jubilation as the Seahawks take on the rival Arizona Cardinals.
This Week 3 matchup will be an interesting test for the Cardinals as well as for this young Seahawks team.
I believe the Seahawks defense will be able to shut down Ryan Williams and Beanie Wells, and so the Cardinals offense might have a hard time getting any sort of offensive rhythm going.
Couple that with the Cardinals having to deal with Mike Williams and Sidney Rice without their best cornerback and the Seahawks may have a good good day against Arizona. Seahawks win.
Week 3: Seattle over Arizona (1-2)
Week 4: Seattle vs. Atlanta
4 of 18The Atlanta Falcons may be the best team that the Seahawks play all year. The Falcons seem to be better at every single position except for possibly the defensive line and special teams.
At the skill positions, Atlanta seems to be head and shoulders better with stars in Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Roddy White.
I just can't see the Seahawks putting up more points than this high-flying Falcons offense. Watch the Falcons light up the scoreboard through the air and on the ground. The Seahawks defense might be in for a long day.
Week 4: Atlanta over Seattle (1-3)
Week 5: Seattle at New York Giants
5 of 18I believe that this week will be a crucial week for Seattle that determines the rest of their season. With a bye week in Week 6, Week 5 will be a critical week to gain momentum for a stretch of games that are seemingly easy wins.
Week 5 comes against the New York Giants at the New Meadowlands Stadium. I see this as a game where the Seattle defense begins to find their identity and begins playing together as a unit.
I think that Chris Clemons and the defensive line will be too much for Eli Manning to handle, and he will be careless and reckless with the ball. A big play from the secondary and Seattle very easily could win this game.
The Giants also may have a hard time defending against the pass with Rice and Williams man-handling the Giants cornerbacks.
I like Seattle to win over New York.
Week 5: Seattle over New York (2-3)
Week 6: Bye Week
6 of 18Bye Week.
Week 7: Seattle at Cleveland
7 of 18This game may be closer than a lot of Seahawks fans would like to think.
By Week 7, Cleveland may have a more potent offense than people will think. Colt McCoy will be gaining poise, and Peyton Hillis likely will not be slowed down by his "rough 'em up" running style yet.
Joe Haden and the Browns secondary may be able to slow down the Seahawks passing attack enough to cause problems for Tarvaris Jackson and company. I think that "Beast Mode" Marshawn Lynch will be the real game-breaker in this situation and put the team on his back to win the game for Seattle.
It'll be a close game but Seattle will win out in Cleveland.
Week 7: Seattle over Cleveland (3-3)
Week 8: Seattle vs. Cincinnati
8 of 18This game seems like a very typical game for the 12th man to take over.
Barring some crazy season, rookie Andy Dalton will be the Bengals starting quarterback and will be unable to handle the loud and crazy stadium of Qwest (I mean Century Link Field). I think that the Seahawks defense teamed up with the 12th man will drive this young quarterback crazy.
The Bengals might be in for a long frustrating day as the Seahawks D could demolish this young offense.
If Tarvaris Jackson can be mobile in this game he may be too much to handle for the Bengals relatively slow defensive line, look for big plays out of Jackson and the Seahawks scatbacks Leon Washington and Justin Forsett.
Seattle will sweep the Ohio teams.
Week 8: Seattle over Cincinnati (4-3)
Week 9: Seattle at Dallas
9 of 18This game will be another game that could decide the Seahawks season.
Dallas to me is a very hit or miss team. They have the potential of winning 12 games next season or winning four games next season. Unfortunately, I think that by this time, Tony Romo will be gunning with the best of them and will have the Cowboys competing in the NFC.
This brings up the matchup of Romo versus the Seahawks secondary. While Earl Thomas is an up-and-coming star, I see Romo toying with Kam Chancellor and whoever the Seahawks second cornerback will be while Miles Austin outplays Marcus Trufant all game.
It's disappointing, but I have very little faith in Trufant anymore.
The Seattle offense will play well in this game, I do believe that. Jackson could impress very easily and this would be a game for a Seahawks wide receiver to dominate. But in the end, I do not believe it'll be enough, and I see the Seahawks going into their fourth loss.
Week 9: Dallas over Seattle (4-4)
Week 10: Seattle vs. Baltimore
10 of 18This game seems like it will be very similar to the game against Pittsburgh. This young offense will have a hard time competing against a defense that boasts seasoned veterans like Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata and Ray Lewis.
Somehow, I find it hard to think that Tarvaris Jackson will leave the game with fewer interceptions than touchdowns.
The young offensive line will get demolished by Haloti Ngata and Terrell Suggs, both pass-rushing specialists who will rip through to the quarterback. Don't be surprised if the running games gets off to a slow start either.
Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are two of the smartest defensive players in the NFL and will be able to see through almost any Seahawks play. It'll be a rough game to say the least.
Sorry Seattle, but this may be painful.
Week 10: Baltimore over Seattle (4-5)
Week 11: Seattle at St. Louis
11 of 18In the first rematch of last year's NFC West "Championship" game, St. Louis is coming for revenge. This series between these two teams will likely decide the NFC West. I am confident that by Week 11, Seattle will be finding out what kind of a team it is.
This game will certainly be decided by quarterback play, and unfortunately, it seems that Sam Bradford will play better than Tarvaris Jackson in this showdown. Bradford is a solid talent and will show off how he can play at home.
Look for new Rams receiver Mike Sims-Walker to out muscle and out jump the Seahawks undersized cornerbacks.
It seems like Seattle will lose this NFC West showdown. It'll be a close game, but St. Louis pulls ahead.
Week 11: St. Louis over Seattle (4-6)
Week 12: Seattle vs. Washington
12 of 18After a Week 11 loss to St. Louis, Seattle will be looking to rebound in a game versus the Redskins. It seems that this may be one of the few games where Seattle will have the better quarterback because it is very uncertain who the Redskins may find to be their starter come Week 12.
Seattle can win this game if they stay on the ground and keep the turnovers to a minimum. Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle rushing attack will go off against this poor Washington rush defense. If Seattle can do this, the offense will be able to take off.
On the other side of the ball, look for Earl Thomas and the Seahawks secondary to absolutely pick apart whatever quarterback the Redskins put up (watch out if its Rex Grossman). A big play or two from this secondary and Seattle could end up with a blow out win.
Week 12: Seattle over Washington (5-6)
Week 13: Seattle vs. Philadelphia
13 of 18This game may be a human highlight reel for the Eagles. Philadelphia could absolutely run the tables on offense with star players Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy and three potential Pro Bowl wide receivers in Steve Smith, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.
This exciting and electrifying offense will be backed by the best secondary that the NFL has seen in the last decade. Every single pass will be a difficult venture for Seattle.
If Seattle has a chance at winning, it will be on the ground or through tight ends John Carlson and Zach Miller. Even Tarvaris Jackson's mobility will not be able to be put on display due to the Eagles stout and athletic defensive line with Jason Babin and sack specialist Trent Cole.
Eagles win big.
Week 13: Eagles over Seattle (5-7)
Week 14: Seattle vs St. Louis
14 of 18This game will likely decide the Seahawks' season. If they lose, I do not think there will be a chance whatsoever of Seattle winning the NFC West. After losing in Week 11, Seattle will need to come back more focused and more intent on winning for their home crowd.
I expect Pete Carrol to get this team focused, and I believe that they will be playing their best football of the entire year. Expect Tarvaris Jackson to go off. I see him connecting deep with Rice on a few plays and making some big gains with his feet as well.
If Seattle can take advantage of the weapons they have on offense and are able to hold Sam Bradford and company in a hostile environment, the Seahawks will come out with a win.
I fully expect this to happen and expect the Seahawks to be competing again in the NFC West.
Week 14: Seattle over St. Louis (6-7)
Week 15: Seattle at Chicago
15 of 18It seems that it will be the story of the Seahawks season. Win followed by loss. This young Seahawks team may have a hard time staying consistent and staying focused throughout this season.
This will be the theme in this rematch of the NFC divisional playoff game.
I am of the few that believe Chicago will be solid this year, unfortunately more solid than this Seattle team. I expect the ground game with Matt Forte will be too much for the Seahawks to handle, couple that with a few big plays from Cutler to Johnny Knox and the Bears might knock out the Seahawks.
The Bears defense will be a solid test to see if this Seahawks offense is for real.
Not yet. Bears win in a game that points out the Seahawks indecencies.
Week 15: Chicago over Seattle (6-8)
Week 16: Seattle vs. San Francisco
16 of 18By this point, I get the feeling that San Francisco's season will already be in the hole. At this point in time the San Francisco 49ers will be working the kinks out of Colin Kaepernick at quarterback and due to this they will greatly struggle.
Frank Gore will have a big game like he always does against Seattle, but that won't be enough if the Seahawks are able to consistently pack eight or nine guys in the box to shut down the run.
Expect the Seahawks offense to be playing with some fire and determination knowing that each game will be needed to make the playoffs.
The offense led by Marshawn Lynch will take advantage of all the turnovers that the 49ers commit. The 12th man won't hurt either. A sloppy game leaves the Seahawks winners.
Week 16: Seattle over San Francisco (7-8)
Week 17: Seattle at Arizona
17 of 18So this is it. The Seahawks last game. Their last ditch attempt to become a .500 squad and possibly win the NFC West.
I think this game will be one of the most exciting and entertaining games that the Seahawks play this season. I expect the offense to do very well and look like a solid professional offense.
The quarterbacking will be solid, the offensive line will be firing on all cylinders and I expect Marshawn Lynch to have one of his best games of the season. Unfortunately, I expect Arizona to be very similar.
I think Kevin Kolb will have a great game and will show the league why Arizona gave up so much to get him. This game could be so evenly balanced that it will come down to something entirely different to win this game.
And that is where Seattle will win with its special teams unit. Leon Washington will burst out with a few big plays that put the Seahawks in situations to take the lead.
I think that the Seahawks will win this game and will become a .500 team.
Week 17: Seattle over Arizona (8-8)
Wrap Up and Postseason?
18 of 18So that's Seattle's season. 8-8, .500. It may seem like a really easy prediction but it also seems like a fair estimate of Seattle's regular season. The real question that remains is, is this enough to win the NFC West?
Personally, I do not believe it is. I think that it will be a tight race between Seattle and St. Louis, but in the end, St. Louis will win with a 9-7 record.
But what do I know? Last year, this division was won with a 7-9 record showing that any team has a chance. So will the Seahawks win the NFC West? Who knows?
