TNA News: TNA's Backstage Issues and Ways They Can Be Resolved

Alex BakerJun 4, 2018

First of all, let me clarify that I am in no way a TNA hater. I've been a fan of TNA for a very long time, and I continually hope that it eventually becomes a viable alternative to the WWE (if it isn't already). That begin said, I am not a big fan of the direction the company has been taking over the past few months, and the recent big news shows that many of the wrestlers share my feelings about the company.

It is being reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that some of the wrestlers, who TNA used at the Impact Wrestling tapings prior to Destination X, were not regulars with the company. The publication also reported that these wrestlers noted that they "couldn’t believe how bad morale is in the company."

They went on to say that there was a consensus in the back "that guys are just working for TNA to collect paychecks" and that "the roster has lost all confidence in Vince Russo, if they had any in him to begin with." This resentment seems to extend to Hogan and Bischoff, whom many believe have not contributed any good ideas or booking decisions since being brought into the fold.

There also seems to be some animosity due to the fact that TNA passed on Paul Heyman, who is very popular backstage. Many of the guys in the back feel that Heyman could have made the company a true contender with the WWE and not just the No. 2 company.

Wow, that's a punch in the gut to Vince Russo and the rest of TNA's management. While I've never been a big Russo or Hogan guy, I personally feel that Bischoff does have some good ideas and genuinely knows how to run a good program. That being said, I can't see how TNA doesn't attempt to do something to make sure their top talent doesn't jump ship to the WWE or one of the several rising independent companies (like ROH or New Japan, or even Chikara).

Generation Me asked for their release from the company several weeks ago and have already started booking independent shows, reusing their old tag name The Young Bucks. This may be a sign of things to come, if TNA doesn't change the direction they're heading in.

Personally I think they need to bring in a few new faces to creative. Paul Heyman is allegedly working a deal with WWE right now, and Jim Cornette seems happy working with everyone not named Vince Russo. So maybe they should go after a few ex-wrestlers to shake things up.

Another way they could make the back happy is by pushing some new faces into the main-event picture. There are plenty of guys in the back that deserve to be main-eventing and just never get put in the picture. Matt Morgan, Samoa Joe, Robert Roode, James Storm, Christopher Daniels and Kaz. All these guys should be competing for the title, yet none of them are anywhere near the main-event picture right now.

Things need to change backstage with TNA soon, or you may see several other wrestlers asking for their releases in the near future (especially if ROH continues to grow at the pace it is).

Thanks for reading, and please comment below about how you would fix TNA's backstage issues if you were in charge of the company.
