WWE Capitol Punishment: 11 Other Matches We'd Love To See at Next WWE PPV

Drake OzJun 13, 2011

We're only six days away from the WWE's first-ever Capitol Punishment pay-per-view, and—wouldn't you know it?—only four matches have been announced so far.

Here are the bouts we know will take place live from Washington, D.C. this Sunday:

John Cena (c) vs. R-Truth for the WWE Championship

Randy Orton (c) vs. Christian for the World Heavyweight Championship

Wade Barrett (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson for the Intercontinental Championship

The Miz vs. Alex Riley

There are plenty more matches that could or will be added to the Capitol Punishment card, but when it comes to the WWE, you never really know what to expect.

So, since WWE officials can't give us the satisfaction of announcing all of the PPV matches more than six days in advance, I've decided to take a look at 11 other matches I really want to see on Sunday.

And don't be surprised if a few of these actually happen.

11. Tyson Kidd vs. Yoshi Tatsu

1 of 11

Even though the WWE never acknowledges this, WWE Superstars often features some of the best in-ring action you'll see from the company on a weekly basis.

Sure, guys like Yoshi Tatsu and Tyson Kidd aren't stars or household names. But they bust their you-know-whats in the ring, despite primarily competing on a show that hardly anyone watches.

Of course, advertising Tatsu vs. Kidd isn't going to sell more pay-per-views, but it'll give some of the WWE's lower-card workers a chance to work on the big stage and move up the card.

Kidd seems to be getting a mini-push on Superstars, and WWE officials are reportedly "high up" on him.

So, a pay-per-view match is a good way to get him over as someone who's not just a star on Superstars.

10. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) vs. the Corre (Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel)

2 of 11

Much like Kane, the Usos can't seem to decide whether they're faces or heels.

Nonetheless, Jimmy and Jey have really impressed me in their limited in-ring action as of late, and they are one of the few legitimate tag teams currently in the WWE.

They're the type of guys who can become staples in the company's tag team division for years to come. But to get there, they need to feud with other legit tag teams.

In today's WWE, those options are obviously limited, which is why a feud with Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel of The Corre works best.

These two teams already battled in a six-man tag match on last week's SmackDown, and they could put on a decent showing in a 10-minute pay-per-view bout...even if the crowd would be pretty dead for it.

9. Divas Championship: Beth Phoenix vs. Brie Bella

3 of 11

With Kharma gone, Melina out of the Divas Championship picture and Natalya being wasted on SmackDown, the next best thing I can get out of the Divas division is a title feud involving Beth Phoenix.

Beth is undoubtedly the top overall Diva in the WWE now, and she could really help elevate Brie Bella if the two were to feud for the Divas Championship.

Though Brie's certainly improved over the years, to be the best, she needs to work with the best.

And the best is Beth Phoenix, who might not look as good as Kelly Kelly but can damn sure out-wrestle her.

8. The Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio

4 of 11

I'm not overly excited about the prospects of a match between The Big Show and Alberto Del Rio—frankly, I just don't think it'll be all that good.

But Del Rio is rumored to face John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, and he needs some momentum heading into the summer months.

What better way to do that than by getting the best of the World's Largest Athlete?

The WWE has a perfect tool in The Big Show, because he's a guy who can lose a feud, stay over with the crowd and still appear to be that dominant force the WWE bills him as.

I'd fully expect Del Rio and Big Show to face off at Capitol Punishment on Sunday, and a win for ADR is the only result I want to see there.

7. United States Championship: Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Zack Ryder

5 of 11

We've already seen Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston more times than I care to count—literally—so it's time to change things up a bit here.

Tonight's Raw takes place in Long Island, New York, which most of you probably know is Zack Ryder's hometown.

If I'm on the WWE creative team, I book a segment where Ryder cuts a promo about how his hometown fans want to see him in action and how he wants another shot at Kingston after losing to him on last week's Raw.

Then, out will come Ziggler, who claims to be the No. 1 contender for the United States Championship. He and Ryder will exchange words for a bit and eventually face each other in a singles bout on Raw.

Ryder will get the win, he'll claim to be No. 1 contender too, the crowd will cheer him (and help him turn face) and the dispute will be settled with a Triple Threat match for the US title at Capitol Punishment.

6. Sin Cara vs. Ted DiBiase

6 of 11

Based on the way Sin Cara and Ted DiBiase have been booked on SmackDown in recent weeks, I'd say the two meeting at Capitol Punishment is a very real possibility.

Then again, Sin Cara has developed a reputation as a botch machine, and I can't even remember the last time DiBiase competed in a singles match on pay-per-view.

Therefore, I'm not really sure that DiBiase vs. Sin Cara will be anything more than a TV feud on the blue brand.

But, if the WWE wants to develop new stars—especially on a SmackDown show that desperately needs them—it might not be a bad idea to give guys like Sin Cara and DiBiase meaningful, lengthy feuds that result in PPV matches.

5. John Morrison vs. Sheamus

7 of 11

I know, this match doesn't make much sense for storyline purposes...at least not right now.

But here's my idea of how to build to this match at Capitol Punishment with just one week of TV time to do so: I have Sheamus cut a promo on SmackDown about how it's a travesty that he's not on the pay-per-view card—that it's because no one can beat him, etc.—when out of nowhere, out comes a returning John Morrison.

Morrison will then cut his own promo about how he was able to beat Sheamus (in a No. 1 contender's match at WWE TLC) and how he can do it again.

This will lead to Sheamus vs. Morrison at the pay-per-view, with Morrison moving over full-time to SmackDown to help the blue brand with one of its biggest problems:bab a lack of top baby faces.

4. Booker T vs. Jack Swagger

8 of 11

After seeing Booker T squash Jack Swagger on last week's Raw, I thought to myself, "Man, Booker stills looks pretty damn good for 46 years old."

And, the truth is, the guy would probably be a welcome addition to a WWE roster that could really use some star power right about now.

That's probably not happening, though, so it would be nice to see Booker work the occasional feud and help get some of the company's younger stars over with the crowd.

Working an extended program with Swagger would not only help the "All-American American" step up his game, but it would also give some old school fans a reason to watch Capitol Punishment.

3. Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger

9 of 11

Admittedly, I don't think there's any real chance that we'll see Jack Swagger vs. Booker T at Capitol Punishment.

As for Swagger vs. Bourne, though, the ball is in the creative team's court.

They've already spent the last three weeks—with two matches between Swagger and Bourne, and one between Booker and Swagger—building up this feud, so are they really going to relegate it to Raw?

I sure hope not, because Bourne and Swagger are two guys who the WWE should be building its future around.

2. CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio

10 of 11

Did we see Rey Mysterio and CM Punk in a lengthy feud on SmackDown in 2010? We sure did.

Have we seen them wrestle two straight weeks on Raw? Absolutely.

But do we love watching two guys with incredible chemistry battle it out in the ring on a consistent basis? Hell yeah.

Unless they face each other for 20 straight weeks, I don't think I'll ever get tired of Punk vs. Mysterio.

1. Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan

11 of 11

Much like Punk and Mysterio, we've already seen Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan compete against each other in a very good TV match in recent weeks.

But you know what? I want more from these two.

In my book, Rhodes and Bryan are SmackDown's brightest young stars, two guys who should move up to the main-event scene of the blue brand sooner rather than later.

So, putting them in an extended rivalry that results in multiple PPV bouts is a good way to season them up before they hit the big time.

Because, at least in Rhodes' case, that isn't too far away.
