Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Big Signings Ahead from Kenny Dalglish

Vince SapienzaJun 12, 2011

The Reds are hungry and ready to spend their money in order to get back to the top of the English Premier League. Just how serious are they? Fenway Sports, the owners of Liverpool FC, have given head manager Kenny Dalglish an €80 million budget to get the best players and missing links for an English title.

Liverpool has been upset by Manchester United this past week in seeing centre back Phil Jones, a coveted defender, sign with Old Trafford (well almost). Jones is all but a Red Devil, but they hit a minor speed bump in the contract area, meaning United will just have to pay a bit more. Dalglish will need to move ahead if he wants to stay in the running for marquee players the rest of the summer.

Dalglish is looking for a buyer for centre back Daniel Agger, who the boss is looking to ship out. Also on the outs could be Alberto Aquillani, who may be finding a home in his native Italy. If those two men take off, they will have €18 million more to spend on top of the €80 million already given to them.

Dalglish is ready to spend some more money and make some more moves after his most recent signing of Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson for a reported €20 million.

Expect big things coming from Liverpool FC in the coming weeks. We will take a look at who will be heading to Anfield next season.

Gary Cahill: Bolton Wanderers

Gary Cahill is an obvious candidate for the Reds since their main man Phil Jones has made his home the Old Trafford. Gary Cahill is under a contract clause, where his price tag would be €16 million. A price like this for the now rich Reds is nothing, but according to The London Evening StandardManchester City and Arsenal are in a heated bid for the English footballer.

Cahill fits the mold that head man Kenny Dalglish is trying to put together at Anfield. Dalglish has said he wants to have a strong English core of players. Cahill would look mighty good in the Reds uniforms, but unless Dalglish makes a swooping offer for the defender, then he may be out of luck.

It seems now the only way to win over Cahill would be to overpay him, and though the money is there, I am not sure how willing Dalglish is to spend that kind of dough.

Stewart Downing: Aston Villa

The English winger Stewart Downing is a player Kenny Dalglish admires very much. As I said before, Dalglish is trying to go to English roots and Downing is a perfect option. However, now that teammate Ashley Young has been shipped to Old Trafford, the Lions have tightened their grip on the winger.

According to goal.com, the left winger and the Reds are days away from a €15 million contract deal. Dalglish has been eyeing this man ever since the campaign ended, and now he may have found his man.

Downing would be a wonderful fit at Anfield on the left side of Steven Gerrard. And with this move days away from being complete, it is a sure fact that Aquillani will be on his way out.

Gael Clichy: Arenal

According to soccernet.espn.com, Kenny Dalglish and the Reds have made a €5 million offer to Arsenal's Gael Clichy. Clichy, who still has 12 months on his current contract, fits a dire need for the Reds at the left back position.

At €5 million, it seems obvious that Arsene Wenger will at least match it, especially to annoy the rivals. I find it hard pressed to believe that Wenger would overpay for the services of Clichy when he is out trying to spend money on new talent.

Again, this is speculation, but I feel Clichy at some point in the summer will be signed over to Anfield, and the Frenchman will be starting next season.

Charlie Adam is a high-profiled name that head man Kenny Dalglish is ready to make a run for—again. The Blackpool Captain, who rejected a transfer opportunity to Anfield in the winter, may now be on his way as the summer sun rolls in.

According to givemefootball.com, Dalglish is ready to make a run soon for the 25-year-old talent. Even with the signing of Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson, Dalglish is still heavy on the idea of bringing Adam to Liverpool.

It is reported that it would cost at least €8 million to Liverpool, but again as we have mentioned, Liverpool FC have some deep pockets to work with and are fully capable of pulling the trigger.

Connor Wickham: Ipswich

According to ESPNStar.com, Connor Wickham is also a man—or should I say kid?—who Kenny Dalglish is pursuing. The 18-year-old has been one of the brightest young prospects for England and is currently playing in the under-21 games right now.

His current club, Ipswich, is currently asking for at least €11 million for the English international who is still under contract. However, the biggest hurdle for the Reds may be the same team that gave them another English international under-21 player, Jordan Henderson. Sunderland are looking to fill the void in which Henderson had left and hope to fill it with yet another bright star in Wickham.

As speculation of transfers continue to roll in for Liverpool, they all sound of great promise and fortune, but at some point they will not have the money to spend. Dalglish will have a tough time figuring out what is a need and what is a want.
