WWE: R-Truth and the 13 Most Hated Wrestling Personalities Going Right Now
There's a very basic format to wrestling that we see in plenty of other aspects of life: the battle of good vs. evil.
Or in wrestling terms, heels vs. faces.
For the most part, the faces are the ones who tend to get cheered, the heroes that kids look up to. On the other hand, heels are the wrestlers who are despised by the crowd, the cowardly men and women who make the arena erupt in a chorus of boos.
But it isn't always that cut and dried.
Especially in the WWE, there are a number of personalities who, whether they're heel or face, will always feel the hate from wrestling fans across the country.
Here are the 13 most hated wrestling personalities currently in the WWE.
13. Wade Barrett
1 of 13
As the leader of The Corre, Wade Barrett's got about five percent of the momentum that he had while heading the Nexus on Raw.
But he's one of the top 10 talkers in the WWE, and he really knows how to make the crowd boo him when he's on the mic.
Barrett has been relegated to a boring feud with Ezekiel Jackson as of late, but he's still the head of a heel faction.
Granted, The Corre is about as pointless as unsharpened pencil. But Barrett's still very good, even though he doesn't get all that much air time anymore.
12. Jack Swagger
2 of 13
That goofy grin, that airplane celebration and that arrogant "All-American American gimmick" make fans truly hate Jack Swagger.
He hasn't had a real feud in...well, I don't really remember how long. But he worked as Michael Cole's trainer at Wrestlemania 27 for his match against the beloved Jerry Lawler, and he wrestled Booker T on last night's Raw.
Swagger may not be getting actual rivalries (Evan Bourne doesn't count), but at least he's gotten in the ring with Lawler, Booker and even John Cena in recent months.
If the WWE continues to book Swagger in matches like these, then he will continue to generate some decent heat from the crowd.
11. The Bella Twins
3 of 13
What?! A pair of Divas on a "most hated wrestling personalities" list?
Yep, I've got the Bella twins here, not because they've been particularly spectacular as heels, but because they've been above average recently.
With their promo they cut on Kharma last week and their ongoing feud with Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix, they've been working with arguably the WWE's three most beloved female wrestlers.
Kharma got a lot of sympathy with her promo on her pregnancy, and in return, the Bellas generated some solid heat by making fun of her for it.
As long as they're working against the powerful Beth and the incredibly hot Kelly Kelly, wrestling fans won't like them very much.
10. Christian
4 of 13
Just a week ago, Christian would have been in the top three of the "most loved" list, but that went up in smoke with his attack on Randy Orton at the conclusion of last week's Smackdown.
Though we haven't seen Christian on WWE programming since then, make no mistake about it, all those cheers we've been hearing are about to become boos.
Captain Charisma is in the process of turning heel, and because it's happening against a huge face like Orton, it's going to garner him a ton of hatred from the crowd.
Within the next month or so, I wouldn't be surprised to see Christian very close to (or even at) the very top of this list.
9. Sheamus
5 of 13
Even though he just had a World Heavyweight Championship match against Randy Orton, Sheamus has been stuck in No Man's Land for quite a while now.
He seems to be lodged between the upper mid-card and the main event, a guy who's too good to be wrestling for secondary titles but one that's not going to be in a lengthy feud for the world title anytime soon either.
No matter what, though, the crowd has made its feeling toward Sheamus very clear. They can't stand the guy.
The combination of his look, accent and in-ring skills are very unique, and though he may not be considered a star, he's a dependable heel who the WWE creative team knows it can rely upon when it runs out of options.
8. John Cena
6 of 13
Sure, John Cena might very well be the most beloved wrestler currently in the WWE, but there's a very vocal minority that is quite anti-Cena.
I'm talking, of course, about the IWC.
While the live crowd may cheer Cena until the roof nearly explodes off the building, there are plenty of people reading this article who absolutely loathe him.
Cena's bright colors, his corny promos, his "five moves of doom" and the fact that he never loses cleanly have caused many of us to call for a Cena heel turn.
And, until that happens, Cena's going to be one hated man by anyone who doesn't need their parents' permission to buy a "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" T-shirt.
7. Alberto Del Rio
7 of 13
Alberto Del Rio is one of those guys who I can't ever picture working as a face.
Everything about this man just screams, "Heel." He's got the gimmick, the fact that he's a foreigner and that cheesy little grin that makes you wanna punch him in the face.
It doesn't really matter that Del Rio's in a not-so-exciting feud with The Big Show right now. All that matters is that Del Rio knows how to make the most out of every opportunity.
Give him a mic, he cuts a fantastic promo. Give him 10 minutes in the ring, he puts on one heck of a match.
It's why the crowd has hated him since the moment he stepped foot in a WWE ring.
6. Cody Rhodes
8 of 13
Cody Rhodes is undoubtedly a star in the making.
When you see his mannerisms, when you hear him speak, you really think that he's being himself rather than portraying a character or gimmick.
It's the mark of an excellent heel, one that Rhodes seems to be grasping quicker than most.
And, as long as he's cutting great promos that really insult the crowd, he's going to be a great heel. If Rhodes can continue to get a ton of mic time on Smackdown, then look for him to be the WWE's real next breakout star.
5. The Miz
9 of 13
What can I say about The Miz? The man is easy to hate.
When it became clear that he was moving on from his feud with John Cena, I admit that I wasn't sure where exactly he would be going.
But now it's apparent that The Miz is at the beginning stages of what should be a lengthy rivalry with his former protege, Alex Riley.
And, amazingly enough, The Miz is doing two things that show how good of a heel he is: He's staying over with the crowd, and he's putting over Riley as a huge face on the Raw brand.
It's something that Chris Jericho was phenomenal at, and being mentioned in the same breath as Y2J is an excellent way to stay at the top of the WWE's heel pecking order.
4. CM Punk
10 of 13
CM Punk hasn't gotten the limelight like many other heels--The Miz, R-Truth, etc.--as of late, but he's another guy who takes the ball he's given and runs with it.
I'm sure Punk would love nothing more to be in a WWE Championship feud with John Cena right now. Yet, he doesn't let the fact that he's not in the main event prevent him from performing at the highest level in the company week in and week out.
If the script calls for a Punk promo, he knocks it out of the park. Every single time.
Even though Punk's a great wrestler, we often overlook that because he's the most natural mic worker in the WWE and we can't helped but be wowed by him when he speaks.
As long as Punk sounds like what he's saying is actually true, then he's going to be loathed like no other.
3. Vickie Guerrero
11 of 13
"Excuse me!" But Vickie Guerrero has an uncanny ability to get under the skin of the crowd.
Literally all it takes is those two words for my ears to hurt from hearing so many boos resonate through the arena.
Normally, I'd have Vickie at the top of any "most hated heels" list, but she hasn't been in the spotlight as much since Dolph Ziggler's move to Raw.
When she is, though, there's no denying that Vickie is one of the very best in the business at making people hate her, or whoever she's managing.
After all, can you imagine where Ziggler would be without her by his side?
2. Michael Cole
12 of 13
"Can I have your attention, please?" Michael Cole is annoying as hell!
His obsession with The Miz, or even other heels like Alberto Del Rio, his back and forth bickering with Jerry Lawler on commentary and his arrogant demeanor make me legitimately despise the man.
Even though the WWE seems to be toning down Cole's heel persona down a bit, I honestly want to change the channel whenever he speaks.
And I know I'm not alone, either.
1. R-Truth
13 of 13
Anytime you put a heel up against John Cena, there's a good chance that guy is going to generate a ridiculous amount of heat.
And Truth is taking full advantage of his feud with the WWE's top star.
I'd argue, though, that Truth's recent heel turn, along with his new crazed, maniacal persona, has a lot more to do with his success on the dark side than Cena.
Sure, Cena's helping Truth get more heat than he would against someone like Kofi Kingston, but he's also gotten there through his own effort.
Truth's new gimmick has been nothing short of phenomenal so far, and since it's so new, he's going to be despised for it.
