Celtics Dig Themselves in 0-2 Hole Losing to Heat in Game 2
The Big Three of the Celtics were outscored by the Big Three of the Heat 80-36. Game over. Kevin Garnett got his 20 shots and scored 16 points, but was still outscored by his counterpart Chris Bosh, who took half as many shots but managed to get to the line 11 times (Garnett took zero free throws). Pierce failed to make up for his lost time in Game 1 like I thought he would. Instead, he played even worse, scoring only 13 points and allowing Lebron to score 35. Ray Allen's streak of great playoff performances this year came to a screeching halt tonight. He scored only seven points and allowed Dwayne Wade to go off once again and finish with 28.
I'm not even quite sure what to say besides that. You can't win when your three best players score only 36 points. And you can't win when you allow the other team's three best players to score 80 points. That is just common sense. The Celtics allowed both tonight and payed the price.
The price they must now pay is the burden of a seemingly insurmountable 0-2 series deficit against a team with all of the momentum. They could have and should have won both games. We should be going back to Boston with some confidence. Instead, we are going back to Boston in a desperate state, down 0-2. No reason to give up on this Celtics team, but maybe a reason to lose some confidence in them after Games 1 and 2.
