Manny Pacquiao May Have Antonio Margarito All Figured Out
Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao must have Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito all figured out the moment he climbs the ring on November 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Less than three weeks before fight night, Pacquiao seems unmindful of the tons of criticism from boxing fans and critics about his lackluster performance during his five weeks training in the Philippines.
In all of Pacquiao's previous fights, he would always train like there is no tomorrow. In many instances, his trainer Freddie Roach would advise him to slow down to conserve energy for another day of rigorous training.
But the WBO welterweight champion would not leave the ring while training either in the Philippines or at Wild Card until he was confident of his accomplishment for the day.
On some days when he had to train outdoors doing the usual jogging or running exercises, he would not quit even when his companions complained of exhaustion, especially on long distance and uphill running exercises.
There were times when the only one left running with him during his outdoor exercises was "Pacman," his ever loyal and energetic pet dog.
Apparently Pacquiao's traditional training pattern is not present in the way he trains for his fight with Antonio Margarito.
Is the Filipino boxer confident he will defeat Margarito without his usually demanding exercises and training?
This seems to be the case. Pacquiao must have figured out the Mexican boxer; otherwise he would have gotten serious with his training.
Roach has on some occasions called Pacquiao's attention on his weekend trips to Manila from his training camp in Baguio City and his nightly basketball games with his ragtag team, but he won't just give up.
Just a few hours after arriving in Los Angeles, California for the second phase of his training, Pacquiao again slipped to San Diego to coach his own basketball team in an exhibition game.
There were reports the Filipino boxer would motor to Las Vegas to endorse a US candidate who is seeking an elective post.
Critics say these social functions are hampering training for his November 13 fight with Antonio Margarito.
Roach has intimated that his favorite student could be considering a career switch at this time. He thinks Pacquiao now enjoys being a politician.
Apparently Pacquiao knows his craft well and thinks Margarito is an easy fight for him. He must have gone through the Mexican boxer's video files and thought he doesn't have to do extra effort to win the fight.
Meanwhile, the Filipino boxer has resumed training at the Wild Card Gym and is expected to do sparring sessions with Vanes Martirosyan, who is undefeated in his professional boxing career.
