Brock Lesnar: 10 Reasons He'll Continue to Be the Face of UFC and MMA

Tom KinslowOct 25, 2010

Brock Lesnar may have been beaten to a bloody pulp by Cain Velasquez on Saturday night.

But by no means should anyone think that this is the end of Lesnar in the UFC.

Lesnar was the face of the company heading into this fight, and I have a good feeling that he's going to continue to be so even after losing his championship in the first round after being beaten so badly the referee had to stop the fight.

Inside are 10 reasons I believe that. If you agree or disagree, make sure to leave it in the comments.

No. 10: Possible Cross-Promotion

Other than Brock Lesnar losing the title to Cain Velasquez, the biggest thing to come out after the fight last night was Lesnar's minor altercation with WWE superstar The Undertaker.

The Undertaker was being interviewed by Fanhouse when Lesnar walked by, and the two had a minor discussion. When asked what it was about, Undertaker would only mention that it was personal and wouldn't elaborate further.

It has been rumored that WWE has offered Lesnar a deal to compete at Wrestlemania. If the UFC allows it, it could be a way to draw more fans from the WWE over to UFC.

It's not the best move considering the reputation of wrestling, but Dana White has been known to be quite the business man, so who knows.

No. 9: Respect for the Sport

After the match on Saturday night, the media looked for Brock Lesnar, but he was nowhere to be found.

Lesnar was getting stitched up, and UFC president Dana White said that Lesnar didn't want to get in the way of Cain Velasquez's moment following his big title win. That's a big show of respect from Lesnar, and something that's going to resonate well in the MMA community.

I'm actually quite stunned by that show of respect by Lesnar.

No. 8: Controversy

One thing Brock Lesnar doesn't shy away from is controversy.

After one of his victories, Lesnar decided to make obscene gestures to the crowd before talking smack on the crowd and the sponsors of the UFC. He isn't afraid to speak his mind and doesn't try to hide his disdain for the media.

When someone gets press like that, you won't shy away from them.

No. 7: Still Growing as a Fighter

Despite the hype around Brock Lesnar, it was very evident that he has plenty to work on as a fighter.

Lesnar had major holes in his defense, and it ended up with his face looking like hamburger after the fight. He hasn't had many professional fights, and despite his amateur experience, that wrestling background can't get him through MMA alone.

He's a hard worker, and I'm sure if Lesnar applies himself the way after he did against Frank Mir, he could become a dangerous fighter.

No. 6: Sponsors

While Brock Lesnar doesn't exactly look like your stereotypical pitchman, once he became a force in UFC, the endorsements have rolled in.

Lesnar has sponsorships with DeathClutch and Jimmy Johns, just to mention a couple, and he has put a major focus on growing his brand without taking it too far. Lesnar has been able to create a large cash flow out of his stardom.

If that many companies are trying to get Lesnar to endorse them, it'd be hard not to keep him at the forefront of the UFC.

No. 5: Popularity

Brock Lesnar is one of the most famous fighters in the UFC, whether that title is justified or not.

His size, strength and fighting style are things that will draw people to him. He's a man that can end a fight with one punch. It's like Mike Tyson; when someone is that powerful and, at times, dominant, people are going to root for that person.

I'm sure when the UFC video game came out, a lot of people wanted to play as Lesnar so they could hit people with those ham-sized fists.

No. 4: Personality

Brock Lesnar isn't your stereotypical prize fighter.

He doesn't love the limelight. In fact, he hates it.

He just lives out in the woods and does his own thing and hates people by all accounts. He's not charming in the least.

He says what's on his mind and doesn't care what anyone thinks about it.

He's a bad boy, and people always love to associate themselves with the bad boy.

No. 3: Size and Strength

It's safe to say that you won't see many people like Brock Lesnar walking down the street.

Lesnar is a mammoth human being who just looks like he's extremely dangerous and could seriously do damage. He's a bit of a freak show, and people love freak shows.

Not to compare him too literally to Kimbo Slice, but he was a bit of a sideshow, and he turned into a big draw for a tiny bit.

Now Lesnar is much, MUCH more talented than Slice, and that's what makes him even more of a draw.

No. 2: Rematch

A lot of people are already hoping for a rematch with Cain Velasquez.

While it will take some time for the two to cross paths again, it's going to happen sooner or later.

People want it, you know Brock Lesnar wants to avenge that embarrassing defeat, and I'm sure Velasquez won't back down from the challenge. There's going to be a lot of hype around Lesnar as always, but this time it will to get back to that rematch.

The UFC won't pass up on that.

No. 1: Big Draw

Brock Lesnar puts butts in the seats and compels people to order pay-per-views.

It's as simple as that.

Lesnar may not be the most talented fighter in MMA, but he is one of the most compelling to watch. The numbers don't deny that.

People want to watch him compete, and as long as that holds true, the UFC is going to promote him heavily.

He's a cash cow, and no businessman in the world would turn away from that.
