Cable Said Last Week 'There Is No Going Back'- He Was Right, Another Raider Loss

amin arikatOct 17, 2010

Sorry Raider fans, another Sunday full of despair, frustration, and ultimately a loss. A very ugly loss at that.

Not that this is surprising, this has been much the same in the village of the Raiders for the last 8 seasons. Win one game (maybe), then lose a game, then lose another game, and another game. And another game. Then maybe another win; then another three or four losses.

Watching the Forty-Niner/Raider game today was like watching paint dry. Slow. Boring. Predictable. No satisfaction.  Did the Raiders have a gameplan that was so vanilla and plain on purpose? Besides the reverse to Louis Murphy, did the script call for 'run right', 'run left, and 'run up the middle': because it sure seemed that way watching them struggle all day to get something going.

Then again, with Jason Campbell throwing in the pocket as an option, I probably would have called mostly running plays also.

After Campbell threw that interception to Manny Lawson, he lost all confidence and looked lost on the field. It's quite possible the Raider coaching staff lost all confidence in him. I can't blame the coaching staff if they did lose confidence in Jason Campbell, I sure did.

The Forty Niners were there for the taking. Alex Smith was struggling, Frank Gore had not busted loose yet, and they were running into the themselves with penalties and miscues just as much if not more than Oakland was.

The first team to stop shooting themselves in the foot was going to win the battle of futility. Even with a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, Oakland looked inept and incapable of winning. Turning Red Zone opportunities into field goals rather than touchdowns is a sure recipe for disaster.

The Oakland Raiders have the worst Red Zone offense in the NFL. Period. Statistically this bears out, as well as in the play-calling and gameplan of their attack. It's not really a Red Zone offense, it's really just offensive.

Field goals do not equal wins. Three and out does not equal wins. The Oakland Raiders do not equal wins on most Sundays.

Last week in the post-game glory that happens in Raiderland three or four times a year each season, Coach Tom Cable said that "this is who we are, and we are not going back." He was correct, they win one game and then don't return to victoryville for quite some time.

The Raiders are not going to win back to back games. Not with play calling like today. Not with Jason Campbell at quarterback. Not with field goals instead of touchdowns. Not with having no first round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Oakland Raiders record right now: 2-4, that sounds normal...
