College Football Crapshoot: Introducing YOUR McNeese State Cowboys!
[Week 6 Crappy Record: 3-3]
[Cumulative Crappy Record: 26-10]
As college football prepares for the BCS rankings, big schools will attempt to get their act together just in time to make the computers wet...which of course would defeat its own purpose, because computers operate best when dry.
Crappy Video of the Week: It's called a body slam, not a pile driver...
HERE'S WHAT I KNOW WILL HAPPEN...
I KNOW Florida State will beat Boston College outright.
The emotional win is a bit scary, but this is one of the worst Boston College team we've seen in a while.
Florida State seems to have officially rebounded from a disheartening performance out in Norman a few weeks back, and is gearing up to make a possible run at the ACC title.
At home, against an inferior Boston College team, the Seminoles may tighten up early but I like them to win decisively after getting their wits about them.
I KNOW Florida (-8) will cover against Mississippi State.
State has looked good as of late, amassing 40+ points in back-to-back contests. But such offense is bound to come down, and on the road against a tough Florida defense will be the facilitator of that principle.
Florida has suffered crushing losses to SEC foes in back-to-back games, and are desperate to salvage their season somehow.
Florida is a proud team with an elite coach in a down year, and they are not about to let the Bulldogs come in and join the ongoing piss parade in the swamp. Florida beats an overvalued Mississippi State team with ease.
HERE'S WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN...
I THINK USC (-2.5) covers vs. Cal.
USC has dug itself a damning hole after dropping its first two contests against Pac-10 opponents. Much like Florida, USC is a proud team with a good coach who will not lay down for anyone, under any circumstance, this early in the season.
This is the same Cal team that went to Nevada and came back without its dignity like a Las Vegas party girl with no time on her hands, so don't be fooled by that decisive home win against UCLA.
Last week at Stanford, we saw the evolution of Matt Barkley as the Trojans slowly began to form an identity on offense. Expect this progression to continue at home as USC will be hungry for a win against a conference opponent. USC covers with ease. I think.
I THINK Oklahoma beats Iowa State outright.
Oklahoma and Bob Stoops will have had two weeks to prepare for an Iowa State team that was taken apart at home against Utah. The blowout adds value to Iowa State, but this is a home game that Oklahoma just cannot afford to lose.
Coming off a big win against Texas, consider it a blessing that OU (who is always prone to the big choke) had an extra week to let a highly emotional victory take its course.
The extra week also gave the Sooners' struggling offense time to gel and get on the same page as they prepare to play a team that's still giving up touchdowns to Utah.
Oklahoma wins in an offensive showcase. I think.
HERE'S WHAT I'M PROBABLY WRONG ABOUT...
I'M PROBABLY WRONG, but McNeese State. (+41.5) will cover at LSU.
I didn't know they existed until looking at the odds either, however the McNeese State Cowboys are in a great spot to cover.
LSU has been one of the worst, yet most exciting, undefeated teams in college football this year.
With wins coming by way of do-overs, special teams, and last-second heroics, despite shoddy quarterback play that will be sure to come back and bite the Tigers, LSU is as overvalued as they come.
The Tigers will also be coming off three straight close, emotional victories and will be looking ahead to a big test at Auburn before returning home to play Alabama.
Because of its aforementioned suspect quarterback play, I don't trust LSU to put 40 points on the board against anyone, let alone cover a 41.5-point spread. McNeese State hangs around as LSU's flaws continue to come to the forefront.
I'M PROBABLY WRONG, but Michigan State (-7) covers vs. Illinois.
Coming off of a string of emotional wins against Big-10 opponents, Sparty must now return home and keep up their pace against a competitive Illinois team.
State has proven themselves to be underrated, even at No. 13, and in order to avoid a letdown loss at home they must stop a team that hung over 30 points on Penn State at Happy Valley.
Illinois' rushing defense has impressed this year and will have their hands full against one of the most dynamic rushing offenses in college football.
Michigan State should be able to grind it out at home and hold off the Fighting Illini as they get ever so close to Top 10 territory.
