Cleveland Browns' Jerome Harrison Is the Latest Flash in the Pan
On Wednesday, October 13th, Jerome Harrison was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for power back Mike Bell.
Message boards are ablaze as Harrison has been a fan favorite for the last few years. Fans are claiming that he wasn't given a chance and that Eric Mangini has mismanaged the entire situation.
Oh how quick the memories fade. Cleveland has a strong history of jumping on a bandwagon, and staying there long after it was time to move on.
Here's a recent list of over-hyped players that have have gone on to do nothing.
Run William Run!

Drafted with the number 16 overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft, running back William Green was picked to be the running back of the future. His career looked promising after gaining 887 yards as a rookie.
The next season would not be so great. After getting pulled over for drunk driving, Green was suspended by the NFL for four games. While he was suspended, Green was involved in a domestic dispute in which marijuana was detected.
The NFL extended the suspension through the end of the season.
William Green had a flash or two since then, but was placed on IR prior to the start of 2006 and has not been heard of since.
Lee Suggs

Lee Suggs is similar to Jerome Harrison in that love was poured upon him after just a couple of remarkable games. In 2003 Suggs put up 186 yards on division rival Cincinnati.
2004 would prove to be the best year of Lee Suggs' career. He broke the century mark 3 times, including a 143 yard late season effort against the Miami Dolphins. The fans loved him.
Lee Suggs and William Green were supposed to be the next "Mack/Byner." Things didn't exactly work out that way. On Monday, August 14, 2006 Suggs was traded to the New York Jets, but when he failed the physical he was shipped back to Cleveland where he was released.
After a brief stint with Miami he is now a quarterbacks coach at Division III Oberlin College.
Mighty Quinn

Brady Quinn was going to be the savior of the franchise. He arrived with much fanfare after the 2007 draft. With a Charlie Weis pedigree and magazine looks, Cleveland had the steal of the draft when they got Quinn at number 22.
Now it seems evident why he fell so low. With no accuracy and a fear of throwing the deep ball, Brady was unable to have an impact on the field.
A common complaint is that he was not given a chance. In fact however, he was not only given a chance by this team, but after an off-season with Denver, the Broncos felt Brady was no better than a third string quarterback.
Ben Gay

I had to use a picture of his coach Butch Davis because not even getty images had a picture of former Browns running back Ben Gay. In fact, the only photo I could find anywhere was from the plain dealer, but I couldn't use that due to copyright.
Ben Gay became a quick fan favorite after one mythical run in which he fell down, then got back up again for a nice gain.
2001 would prove to be his only year in the National Football League. Any Browns fan worth his(her) weight knows exactly who Ben Gay is, not bad for a guy with 172 total yards in a professional career.
Final Thoughts

The guys on this list are only the most recent example of fans getting it wrong. There have been more and will be more in the future.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jerome Harrison will be on this list. He had some flashes of greatness, but at 27 years old "Ghost" seems to have lost a step. When the smoke settles I think we'll find that surprisingly, the Browns Organization knows more about football than we do.
