Georgia Bulldogs Football: After Their First SEC Win, Can They Run the Table?
It’s the midpoint of the season and the Georgia Bulldogs are at a disappointing 2-4. Many expected better from this team, but it is what it is and the team presses on.
Last Saturday the Bulldogs picked up their first conference win by destroying lowly Tennessee 41-14. After that big of a win from a team that seemed to be missing an offensive identity it poses a question some believe can happen. Can these Bulldogs run the table?
Perhaps they can. After all, like KG said, “Anything’s possible!” But I’m afraid Georgia won’t be able to compete with a couple teams. Here’s my breakdown for the remaining games this season.
Vs Vanderbilt
You never want to lose your homecoming game. Hence the scheduling of the easy team. However, Georgia has struggled against some of the easier teams (see Mississippi State and Colorado).
This game is also the debut of Uga XIII. Lots of factors for big emotions this Saturday.
Not to mention the Bulldogs will be without star back Caleb King. Mark Richt suspended him two games for his off the field issues. People forget that Caleb has had run ins with the law before this recent arrest. Can Ealey hold onto the ball and carry the load while King is out?
I believe we’re still high off the Tennesse win and we’ll cruise past Vandy. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if we come out slow. This team is so hard to read. And I’m sure I’m not the only one frustrated with that. Georgia 31 Vandy 21
At Kentucky
I hope Mark Richt and the boys are taking one game at a time. This game is a definite trap game. The annual Jacksonville game is the following week and Kentucky should not be looked past.
Let’s not forget they came into Sanford Stadium and won last year. I’m sure the players haven’t because it was a brutal loss last season. A game they let slip away.
Randall Cobb is the difference maker here and Georgia must be able to shut him down.
The Bulldogs have struggled on the road this year but with wins over UT and Vandy they’ll have some confidence traveling to Lexington. I believe Georgia uses the loss from a year ago to motivate themselves to a big win. But it’s going to be closer than most think. Georgia 27 Kentucky 21
At Florida
Before you jump down my throat, I know this game is at a neutral site in Jacksonville, but that’s an hour an half from Gainesville. Essentially, this is a home game for Florida.
UF has lost some heartbreakers this year, getting crushed by Alabama and a late thriller against LSU.
Can the Bulldogs defense stop Jeff Demps and Trey Burton? That will be the crucial element if Georgia wants to win. As well as establishing a run game of their own.
The Bulldogs live and die by play action and it can work extremely well when they can run the ball well. AJ Green will need to have the game of his life for Georgia to have a chance in the end. King will be back but he will be rusty.
Burton proves he’s too much for Georgia and the Bulldog Nation is let down again. And fears the next few years of Trey Burton. Florida 35 Georgia 28
Vs Idaho State
This is a Bulldog victory. I don’t believe there’s anything left to say. Georgia 48 Idaho State 12
At Auburn
Georgia has won four in row against Auburn. Several winning streaks have come to an end for Georgia this year. Four in a row at Columbia, gone. Six in a row over Arkansas, gone. Nine in a row over Mississippi State, gone. Is this the next streak to end or can the Bulldogs hang on?
It won’t be easy as they face a true winner in Cam Newton. A possible Heisman candidate if he continues to win tough SEC battles. Netwon is 6'6" and 250 pounds. He hails from Georgia and did not commit to Athens. Not sure if the Dogs went after him or not, but I’m sure he would love this win. Especially because it’s been awhile since Auburn has beat Georgia.
AJ Green is the Georgia offense and will need to do all he can to help his redshirt freshman quarterback on the road. Murray has looked good all season long, but it will be a hostile environment when he travels to Jordan Hare Stadium.
A close game that could be decided by a field goal. The streak ends this year. Auburn 31 Georgia 28
Vs Georgia Tech
Clean, old-fashioned hate returns to Athens this year. A couple years ago, on a rainy Saturday, Paul Johnson, in his first year, stole a win from Sanford Stadium. Georgia torched Tech on the ground in last year's contest. Can they repeat?
The Bulldogs haven’t forgot when the Jackets beat them between the hedges two years ago. Nobody enjoys seeing the dreaded Yellow Jackets steal from the hedges of Sanford Stadium.
Tech is a little bit of a different team. Losing key players like Johnathan Dwyer, Derrick Morgan and Morgan Burnett take a toll on a team. Nesbitt is still the leader and would love to end his collegiate career with a win over in-state rival Georgia.
Georgia tends to pick it up late in the season. After playing a full season they finally gel together and the chemistry is in full force. I predict Murray outshines Nesbitt on the ground and Georgia wins. Georgia 24 Georgia Tech 17
So there it is, a recovery from a weak start, but not running the table. The defense isn’t strong enough to handle the speed and talent of Florida or Auburn. Georgia finishes at 6-6 and attends a pathetic bowl game.
But hey, postseason football is better than sitting at home. So is there really such thing as a pathetic bowl game?
