Strikeforce Champ Nick Diaz Shows Surprising Personality In Paul Heyman Video!
Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz is, more so than WWE and TNA pro wrestling superstar, quite the Charismatic Enigma.
The Cesar Gracie-trained BJJ Black Belt is a street fighting tough guy from Stockton, California who has ended up in some of the wildest post-fight brawls in MMA history, and even infamously had a brawl with Joe Riggs at the hospital after a sanctioned fight.
He's the fighter UFC President Dana White says he'd love to have on the roster, but as White says "Nick Diaz just won't play the game."
But Nick Diaz has not lost in three years, including a dramatic beating he threw the legendary Frank Shamrock on Showtime, and now Nick Diaz is in the headlines again for his epic 5 round unanimous decision over KJ Noons last night.
Strikeforce President Scott Coker, who has dealt with all sorts of different personalities, from Cung Le to Kimbo Slice, from Frank Shamrock to Bobby Lashley, from Fedor Emelianenko to Cris Cyborg, has his hands full with the controversial Diaz.
But Diaz certainly surprised everyone with his appearance on former pro wrestling evil genius (and Brock Lesnar biographer) Paul Heyman's "Heyman Hustle" program's second season debut, where the also-controversial Heyman introduced the season by announcing his production company, Looking 4 Larry, which he co-founded with Emmy Award winning New York commercial guru Mitchell K. Stuart of HQ Productions, had expanded into an advertising, marketing, and branding firm.
The firm's first client, which was "no coincidence," as Heyman told Ariel Helwani of AOL's MMA Fighting website, was EA SPORTS, the video game giant that has, no coincidence, an MMA video game coming out in 10 days.
This was rumored a few weeks ago when Gilbert Melendez tweeted a picture of himself with Heyman, setting off all sorts of speculation that has EA SPORTS exec Randy Chase trying to quell the Twitter enthusiasm until an official announcement could be made.
Heyman, Stuart, and crew filmed 5 personality-driven videos in Northern California, with the Diaz video being the first release. The 3 minute piece is so hysterically on target with identifying why kids should want to be Diaz in the game, the appetite has been whet for the next 4 pieces, sure to drop before the release of the game.
For fans of Nick Diaz, this is the MMA bad boy doing a spoof of his image, a tremendous performance by Diaz, who ends the video with the infamous tag line, "Don't be scared, homie!"
For Heyman, this is, as Helwani pointed out, another entry point into MMA, a chance for the master personality maker to demonstrate his skills at bringing out the most in stars, whether they be pro wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, and Mick Foley (all of whom praised Heyman as a character building genius in their respective autobiographies), or WWE - UFC crossover stars like Brock Lesnar, who keeps Heyman close even to this day, despite MMA fans being prone to reject anything or anyone from the pro wrestling world.
Heyman is writing Brock Lesnar's autobiography with the UFC Heavyweight Champion, and has been careful to avoid a public connection with Strikeforce. His deal is with EA SPORTS, and it's done as a deal with Heyman's new agency, but it's obviously a chance for The Mad Scientist to show off his skills to the MMA world when it comes to producing the fighters, and the videos that are created to make the fighters bigger stars.
At 45 years old, Heyman has reinvented himself yet again, and with this entertaining video he produced with Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, it looks like Diaz was given the same chance at the same time.
