U.S. Open Day #3: "Dress for Success" on "Moving Day"

Bermuda BobJun 18, 2011

I though it particularly ironic that the Master Score Card for this year's US Open was coloured roughly the same as what Rory McIlroy has worn each day.   It is either his favourite colour, or something his sponsors like on him.

Rory has put on a show with little or no faltering and has been received by the crowd at Congressional with open arms. Maybe it's his openness after his past failings. Maybe it's his simple approach. Maybe it's his boyish looks.

One way of the other, it's wonderful to have a gentleman at the top of the leaderboard !!!

Rory McIlroy: Our Leader by Eight (8) Strokes

Rory's "Dress for Success ..." ensemble was three (3) simple, complementary colours...and he changed his belt to White !!! Yeah Rory !!!

Y.E. Yang: Sole 2nd Place at Six (-6) Under Par

Y.E. looked great with another embossed shirt, this time in Blue, with everything else in matching Pure White.  He looked great and played well, just not well enough to make any headway on Rory...

Lee Westwood Ties for 3rd at Five (-5) Under Par

Lee Westwood truly personified the "Dress for Success ..." concept with his outfit today, thanks to his embracing his sponsor's dominant colour and complementing it with White, making the UPS logo stand out as much as his game did shooting six (6) under par.

Lee had struggled in Round #1 in a lackluster White and Grey ensemble, then in Round #2 with Black trousers.  As you might remember, I believe Black has no place on the golf course as it is the lack of colour and verve.

Lee is nine (9) shots behind Rory, which is technically striking distance, so let's see what Lee wears tomorrow and if his mindset is "Dress for Success ..." like it was today.

Jason Day joined the Leader Board today as he embraced the "Dress for Success ..." concept, as opposed to his previous use of Black in Rounds #1 and #2.  Today, he shot a blistering six (6) under-par while being dressed nicely.

Jason will be paired with Lee Westwood tomorrow, so we'll see if he remembers that Black has no place on the golf course as Lee did today.

Robert Garrigus Ties for 3rd at Five (-5) Under Par

Robert shot a nice three (3) under-par today and in doing so, proved that he could "Dress for Success ..." in this nicely balanced ensemble of simply Red, Khaki and White.

BTW: There is no truth to the rumour that he stole his son's putter.

Sergio Ties for 6th at Four (-4) Under Par

Sergio continued to "Dress for Success ..." today and shot two (2) under par, which is pretty interesting when you consider that he did not hit a single ball, or warm up, before today's round.

There were no pictures available, but this bright Red shirt has a design embossed on the back in Black, so Sergio accessorized with his hat, belt and shoes.   While I'm not a fan of Black as a primary colour, when your sponsor is Adidas, and they pay you a bundle, you wear what they give you and make an outfit of it.

Sergio played as well as he looked.

Matt Kuchar Ties for 6th at Four (-4) Under Par

Matt looked great today as he demonstrated how to "Dress for Success ..." with this attractive Creme, Red and Brown ensemble. His two (2) under-par was not quite as good as yesterday, but it might have had something to do with that mismatched hat, which should have been White to match his shoes.

Matt was Any North's pick to win it all this year.  It will take a major move tomorrow as he is ten (10) shots off the lead.

Fredrik Jacobson Ties for 6th at Four (-4) Under Par

Fredrik demonstrated his version of "Dress for Success ..." today and shot five (5) under par doing so.

It is usually considered a fashion faux pax to wear everything in the same colour because the different fabrics do not afford a perfect match, but Fredrik did not look all that bad. The Black belt really didn't match anything but the soles of his shoes, but he played exceptionally well, so let's cut him some slack and hope he is a little more colourful tomorrow.
