UFC: Why Don Frye Must Be Inducted into Hall of Fame

Andrew GladstoneOct 4, 2010

The legendary fighter Don Frye (20-8-1) has seemingly been skipped when mentioning fighters to be included in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Frye is a former UFC 8 tournament winner, UFC Ultimate Ultimate 96 tournament winner, and a tournament runner-up in UFC 10.

Frye also holds wins over Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbott, Gary Goodridge, Amaury Bitetti, and is most famous for his fight of the year with Yoshihiro Takayama in 2002.

Here are five reasons why Don Frye should be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Like Chuck Norris has his beard, Don Frye has his unforgettable mustache.

Frye has one of the legendary mustaches in mixed martial arts and that alone is reason enough to induct Frye in the UFC Hall of Fame.

It has been rumored that Frye is so tough that underneath his mustache is a powerful right hand.

One of the Grittiest Fighters in Mixed Martial Arts History

Honestly there isn't a ballsier fighter than Don "The Predator" Frye.

Frye went for it every time and never fought to go the distance.

Whether it was early in his career or towards the end, Frye only knew of one direction, and that's to go forward.

Two-Time UFC Tournament Winner

How could you not induct someone for winning two different UFC tournaments?

"The Predator" won the UFC 8 tournament by winning three times in one night, over Thomas Ramirez, Sam Adkins, and Gary Goodridge. They were his first ever MMA fights.

Later on that same year, Frye would compete three times in one night again, as he defeated Gary Goodridge again, Mark Hall, and would be involved in a classic fight with Tank Abbott to win the Ultimate Ultimate 96 tournament.

One of the Most Well-Rounded in the Early Days of MMA

Don Frye back in his prime was one of the most well-rounded athletes in the sport.

Frye wrestled for Arizona State in college and from there he went on to be one of the best brawlers in the sport and trained in judo.

In the early UFC days, very few fighters could brawl, wrestle, and perform solid submissions. Frye was able to do all three.

Larger Than Life Personality

Anyone who has heard Frye speak for even one minute knows just how truly awesome Frye is to listen to.

Frye commentated Shark Fights earlier this year and left us with a plethora of one-liners that none of us would soon forget.

It is my sincere hope that Frye and his larger than life personality lands a steady commentary job because no one can call a fight quite like Don Frye.
