Red River Rivalry: A Down Year For Both Teams? OU Vs. Texas Just Another Game?
Before you go spouting off OU's undefeated record to me, look at the teams they have beat. Same with Texas, including the loss at home to UCLA.
Neither team looks great this year. Oklahoma struggled in all but one of their non-conference games. Utah State gave the Sooners all they could handle in Norman before getting blown out by Fresno State. I know they won, but just how good are they?
Texas is in a similar situation. The only difference is that Texas lost to a UCLA team not in the top 25. I hate rankings, but I guess it is note worthy. They did beat Texas Tech on the road, but losing at home takes away from that hard earned road victory. So how do you figure out the Longhorns?
The best I can do is to say that both teams are having a down year.
The big game this weekend between the two schools is one of the most anticipated football games in all of the NCAA. And this one will be no different.
One of these two teams has a chance to go to a BCS bowl. Possibly even a National Championship.
The Sooners have a chance to continue down the undefeated path with tough resistance along the way. All they have to do is spoil the Longhorns' come back hopes.
As for the Longhorns, they have a chance to bounce back from a non-conference loss and run their Big 12 schedule with W's.
It is all possible.
The road ahead will not be easy. Texas still has to cross paths with Texas A&M and the Sooners have the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the end of the season.
But it all starts at the Cotton Bowl. Just like it has many seasons before.
