Tiger Woods Sets Press Conference on Friday
So the world will take a coffee break of sorts on Friday around 11 a.m. and stop, look, and listen, because he is coming out of hiding.
Tiger Woods, that is.
Within the regal confines of the majestic headquarters of the PGA Tour, Eldrick T. Woods will face the cameras and most likely read some sort of carefully written statement that will probably throw a mea culpa of sorts toward the Tour, its sponsors and select others.
Don't look for the world's equivalent of the "Invisible Man" to say anything meaningful or answer any questions. That's never been his deal and it most likely will remain that way.
Look for PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem to sit in and perhaps Mark Steinberg of IMG, the agent to his majesty.
Finchem said on Wednesday that he has no idea what Woods will say and that he, the commissioner, like everyone else, hasn't spoken to Tiger.
The Golf Channel will cover it for us.
IMG released its official mumbo-jumbo Wednesday afternoon. Basically it said that Tiger "will address his past, his future, and apologize for his behavior."
Don't look for many media types to be in the room. Per the IMG statement, admission will be limited to "friends and colleagues." Pretty brash assuming that Tiger still has "friends."
There will be some type of network pool to cover this contrived emergence by Woods.
Perhaps NBC and CBS will insist on having cameras there since, after all, they have huge contracts with the PGA Tour and pay big dollars to broadcast Tour events.
Whatever is said, whatever happens or doesn't, Woods will finally be seen on Friday.
He will be seen and heard, but don't expect much out of it.
