2010 NFL Draft: The Texas Longhorns Draft Prospects
After a season in which they were close to winning college football’s coveted national title, the Longhorns boasted one of the most talented teams in college football and will be sending several solid prospects into the NFL draft this coming April.
Some of these prospects should help to continue the Longhorns' legacy of producing top- quality talent for the NFL, and it will be interesting to watch their careers develop in the next few years.
Let’s take a quick look at the prospects that Texas is putting into the draft this year. We will expand on each player much more leading up to the draft.
Colt McCoy—QB. We all know what McCoy has done in the past, and many Longhorns’ fans will hope that he can transfer that success to the NFL. Some of the experts don’t feel that McCoy is going to have a great NFL career because of his size and the system that he played in while at Texas, but he is poised to prove scouts wrong and set himself up for a good career.
Jordan Shipley—WR. Shipley was a very effective wide receiver and punt returner for the Longhorns during his time at Texas and has the kind of skill that many NFL teams will want in a third receiver and punt return specialist. Shipley can be likened to New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, perhaps, and may see a similar role in the NFL.
Sergio Kindle—DE/OLB. Not a lot of people know about Kindle, who was one of the better defensive end/outside linebacker prospects in college football. Kindle could be a first-round pick if he works out well for scouts this offseason and could have a big impact in the NFL in the future.
Lamar Houston—DT. Houston really impressed a lot of people with his performance in the National Championship game and is one the better prospects at the defensive tackle position to come out this season. He will need some strong workouts to move up in the draft, but he would be an asset to any team lucky enough to draft him.
Earl Thomas—S. Thomas is being touted as one of the top safeties in the 2010 NFL Draft, and it’s not out of the question to think that he could go pretty early in the first round. With the talent this year at the safety position, Thomas stands as one of the best of the group and should have a successful career in the NFL.
Overall, these five players represent some of the best talent to come out of Texas in any one season in a long time. Hopefully they will all see great success and be long time NFL stars.
There will be much more about these prospects as we get closer to the draft.
